The moment you’ve been waiting for: our next Nihongo-Eigo Kai!

We hope you all have been looking forward to this event because we sure are excited to host our monthly language exchange meet-up!

Nihongo-Eigo Kai is a community-based social gathering for anyone interested in practicing or wanting to expand their knowledge in both the Japanese & English language. It’s always great to meet fellow language learners and making new friends out of new experiences!

🌕🍡🍵 Tsukimi, Dango & Matcha — Event Recap! 🍵🍡🌕

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our September Monthly Japanese Culture Event!

We spent the morning learning about Tsukimi (Japanese Moon Viewing) and exploring the beautiful traditions surrounding the autumn moon. 🌕🐇🌾

Did you know that many people in Japan see a rabbit making rice cakes on the moon? 🐇🌕

After learning about the history and traditions of Tsukimi, everyone got hands-on and made their own tsukimi dango with sweet red bean paste. 🍡 We also enjoyed a beginner-friendly matcha experience, where participants had a chance to whisk their own bowl of matcha! 🍵

It was wonderful to see everyone learning, creating, and enjoying Japanese culture together.

We hope you’ll take what you learned home with you—and maybe make some dango while enjoying the Harvest Moon on September 26! 🌕✨

🎐🇯🇵 Thank You for Joining Our Japanese Summer Festival! 🇯🇵🎐

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for our Japanese Summer Festival last weekend! ❤️

We were thrilled to welcome nearly 60 guests and celebrate Japanese summer traditions together! 🌊👘🎨💃

From catching Nagashi Somen and trying on yukata to origami, calligraphy, festival games, and Bon Odori, we hope everyone had a fun and memorable afternoon!

Most of all, seeing everyone’s smiles made us so happy! 😊

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped make this event possible, especially on such short notice. We couldn’t have done it without you! 🙏

We hope to make the Japanese Summer Festival even bigger and better next year! 🎐✨

You’ll learn about the history and meaning of Tsukimi, make your own tsukimi dango (moon-viewing rice dumplings), and try a simple matcha-making experience where you can whisk your own bowl of matcha! 🍵

We had such a fun time learning about Japanese food culture and making our own Okonomiyaki! 🥬🥓✨

One thing that surprised me was that almost everyone was unfamiliar with the term “B-kyu Gourmet” (B級グルメ)! 😂

So, what exactly is B-kyu Gourmet?

For this class, we used Otafuku Okonomiyaki Flour and Okonomiyaki Sauce. Otafuku Foods You can find them at many Japanese grocery stores, including H Mart and Buford Highway Farmers Market.

And the best part? Okonomiyaki is super easy to make! Just chop, mix, and cook. 🙌

I think it would be a perfect dish for a potluck party—easy to make, fun to customize, and great for sharing with friends!

Experience two of Japan’s most exciting traditions in one fun-filled afternoon!

Kids will learn the basics of sumo, Japan’s national sport, from the Black Dragon Beya Atlanta Sumo Club, then cool off with a delicious Nagashi Somen (Flowing Noodles) Experience—a favorite Japanese summer tradition!

July 26th is International Unagi Day, and you can take part with Nakato Japanese Restaurant’s Unagi Day Bento Box!

Japan’s Doyo no Ushi no Hi, or Midsummer Day of the Ox, is a traditional day where families and friends enjoy unagi — grilled eel brushed with savory-sweet sauce — as a way to beat the heat.
