Christ Jesus states “the greatest commandment is that you shall love the LORD my GOD JEHOVAH with all of our hearts, and will all of our souls, and with all of our strength, and with all our minds and our neighbor as ourselves” (Luke 10:27-28). The main action word here is Love.
To compare the old commandment with the new commandment to see how love overrides all.
1. You shall have no other gods before me – Christ Jesus commandment stated my GOD – no other god but YAHWEH/JEHOVAH only, do not combine other faiths, beliefs, practices or rituals with what we believe as Christians/Believers of Christ.
2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image. – if you love YAHWEH/JEHOVAH you shouldn’t follow or create any false idols or even images of who you think GOD is or of any false gods. Including the cross necklace charms with Jesus on it. Christ has risen, He is not on the cross anymore. Christ is alive. It is like denying the resurrection when people have carven images of Christ still on the cross.
3. Don’t use the name of the LORD in vain- when you love GOD you wouldn’t want to connect his name with profanity or use it loosely with no respect or honor – people that love other people respect honor them and hold that person and their name in high standards.
4. You shall remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy – loving the Sabbath, resting, and keeping it Holy is a way of loving GOD and honoring everything He states about the Sabbath. Sabbath is a day of rest. Loving GOD and your body enough to rest on Saturday and keeping it Holy is not for GOD, but it shows how much JEHOVAH loves us. GOD does not need rest, but we do. It is a day of restoration and reflecting on GOD and His will for our lives. Everything Holy is who GOD is.
5. Honor your father and mother.- loving your parents is a form of honoring and respecting them.
6. You shall not murder. – When you love someone you wouldn’t want to do anything to hurt them emotionally, verbally, mentally, or physically.
7. You shall not commit adultery- when a person loves someone they see no other person but that person. They wouldn’t want to cheat on them or do anything to hurt them. They would want to make everything work or he/she would rather leave before they cheat and hurt the next person.
8. You shall not steal – if you love someone you wouldn’t want to take anything from them without their consent or approval.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. – A person that has true love for someone wouldn’t want to claim any false witness to make them look in the wrong or even gossip about the person
10. You shall not covet your neighbors things.- a person that love wouldn’t want to desire or crave wrongfully anything that does not belong to them or what someone else have. They would only crave and desire the things of GOD and only want what GOD wants them to have.
The greatest commandments reminded me of a lesson the LORD recently revealed to me. One day I was thinking what would be the greatest prayer to say to GOD to help a wide range of people with food and shelter. My prayer was for GOD to bless my non-profit with billions of dollars so that I can help people in need. My heart was truly in the right place when I prayed that request, because I was honestly thinking about the sake of others and wanting to help people succeed. I wasn’t thinking about any personal benefits at all. But after I made the prayer, I realize that the prayer request was completely wrong. One of the actions for us to do in the greatest commandments is love our neighbors as ourselves. If every person/Christian/Believer in the Body of CHRIST would love their neighbor and COMMIT to helping one person until wholeness not just in ministry but in practical needs also then millions of individuals’ lives would be transformed. That outreach of helping people would impact the world more than zillions of dollars can ever do. As individuals we would be the best example of a representative of/for CHRIST. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for another (John13:35).
Ask JEHOVAH to give you wisdom on who you should help and how should you help them.
Then OBEY whatever GOD place in your heart to do.
For GOD so love the world that HE gave His only begotten son (John 3:16). GOD gave as an action form of love of His love for the world. Aside of giving JEHOVAH His tithes FIRST, then one of the ways of loving your neighbor is to use wisdom and give. Giving is a key as a form of love.
Some practical examples just to help get your mind thinking how to walk in love and love your neighbor: (neighbor- is anyone you may pass by throughout the day or communicate with in your environment not just someone you live next to)
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. (Philippian 2:3-4)
1.Praying with them every day for answers and for change in their lives. Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. (Matthew 18:19) The secret is you both have to believe GOD and agree that they want GOD to do it.
2. Help with updating and approving their resume or job seeking. If the person is looking for a job do some of the searches for them and with them and tell them what you found.
3. The person in the grocery store that you can tell they don’t have enough money for their groceries. Offer to pay for their groceries. Commit to once a month being a blessing to 1 random person in the grocery store and paying their bill for them. (Note: even if the person is using foodstamps still help the amount the government give is never enough for a person to feed their families to last the whole month.)
4. Paying for someone tire to get fix so they can get to work.
5. Check on the elderly or widow- bring them groceries or pay a bill for them everyone knows with their fix income most of them can’t afford bills, food, and medicine. Most of the time the food is the area they try to live without which is not good because most of the elderly medicine need them to intake with food.
6. If you are reading this post and you are financially well off (wealthy) and you pass a homeless person every day. Research and visit a shelter with a program that will help get a person on their feet, mental aid, help with finding shelter and employment for the person. And contact that shelter and have them send a professional outreach team out to speak to the individual and bring them to the shelter. Most homeless shelters accepts according to the beds open and if they have a sponsor or funding to financially cover the needs of the person. Offer to financially pay their shelter fees until they are well able to return to life whole. Without the person knowing sneak in a do random visits to see if the agency is doing everything you paid for. A great example of this love action is the Good Samaritan story in the bible Luke 10:25-37.
As we give to help others in any way even if it is just in time with prayer, it help get our minds off of our own problems and that allow GOD to start working and healing our situation. I heard a Pastor stated that as his mom was healing from cancer; she started praying with other people that was sick and she began to heal into wholeness. I also think about the story of Job where his life changed and he was restored after he started praying for his friends. The abundance of blessing the Lord gave Job is found in Job 42:12-16. The LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than the beginning (Job 42:12).
I challenge you to help impact the world today and chose at least one person to give time, money, assistance to and help until wholeness.
I pray that this post bless you and transform your life as you give and become a blessing for others.
Have yourself a BLESS and AMAZING Life! (why limit the blessing to a day or week…lol)
