Commissioner Steve Bradshaw So honored to have you with us on our 13th CHARTER DAY celebration!
Rotary Zones 33/34Rotary District 6900
On Wednesday, October 12, Commissioner Steve Bradshaw will serve as the guest of honor at the 13th annual Emory Druid Hills Rotary Club festival.
This year’s celebration includes Diwali Festival and World Polio Day awareness both recognized on October 24 this year.
Diwali (English: /dɪˈwɑːliː/) known as the ‘festival of lights,’ is usually celebrated in October or November. This year it begins October 24 and ends on October 29, the holiday is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs worldwide. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".
World Polio Day is observed on October 24 as well. On this day millions commemorate global efforts for a polio-free future, and the sacrifices of frontline workers committed to eradicating polio from the world. Polio is a contagious virus it is however rare because of modern interventions. Because of the ease of which the poliovirus spreads the virus can impair the brain regions that govern respiration, resulting in death. Polio, which has no recognized therapy, can only be avoided through vaccination.
“I look forward to celebrating the 13th Charter Day anniversary of the Emory-Druid Hills Rotary as they commemorate Diwali and bring awareness to Polio. It is befitting that the Rotary symbolically brings awareness to Polio at their Festival of lights, Diwali celebration.” Said Commissioner Bradshaw.
Indian Cuisine (dinner) will be served. Attendees are encouraged to wear Diwali ethnic style attire.
