From a single act of service to a national movement. This is what impact looks like.

In 2017, True Blue 1881, Inc was founded in response to student hunger at Spelman College. What began as a grassroots effort to support students within the Atlanta University Center has grown into a national force for HBCU student success.

Today, we are proud to announce a significant milestone. True Blue 1881 has now impacted students across 50 of the nation’s 107 HBCUs. Our newest student supported comes from Lane College, marking our 50th HBCU impacted. This milestone reminds us that transformational impact extends beyond the most recognized institutions. Every HBCU student deserves access to opportunity, resources, and support regardless of campus size or visibility.

What began as a response to immediate need has evolved into a sustained commitment to educational access, student success, dignity, and long term well being. As we continue to grow our national footprint, we remain deeply committed to the vision of the 100K Futures Campaign, an ambitious effort to support 100,000 HBCU students by 2040. This achievement reflects the power of community, intentional leadership, and collective investment in the future of HBCU students.

True Blue 1881, Inc is on a mission! Our goal is simple: to touch the lives of at least one student at every single HBCU*—107 campuses strong. We’re committed to making a direct impact where it matters most.

Right now, we're searching for graduating seniors facing financial barriers that threaten their ability to walk across the stage this spring—whether it’s an outstanding balance, eviction risk, food insecurity, or graduation fees. We've already made a difference at 46 schools, but we need your help to reach the rest!

If you know a graduating senior at an HBCU we haven’t yet assisted, and their balance or urgent need is $2,000 or less, please send them to our website: trueblue1881.org and encourage them to fill out the Save Our Seniors Scholarship form. The funds raised from our Save Our Seniors 24K Magic Gold Gala are ready to help!

In honor of Black History Month, I’m proud to support the HBCU Walking Billboard with True Blue 1881, Inc. This month, Monday through Saturday, I’ll be spotlighting a different HBCU each day as we count down to our Save Our Seniors Soiree!

Today, I’m excited to highlight Claflin University. My visit to Claflin last year for the Save Our Seniors initiative was truly inspiring. I was deeply moved by the passion of the students, the dedication of the administration, and the energy of President Warmack, who personally joined the effort to identify Seniors at risk of missing graduation due to outstanding balances. The unity and commitment I experienced, regardless of where anyone was from (Pres is from Michigan), embodied the true spirit of HBCUs. Each campus I visit reminds me that you can only truly appreciate the pride, culture, and legacy of our HBCUs by walking their grounds and engaging with their communities.

The money you donate to True Blue goes directly to students; not employees, not software, and not unnecessary costs placed under “operations”. It goes to scholars like Josiah, a third year psychology major from Japan attending Morehouse. When Josiah needed support, there was no red tape, no lengthy application, and no five month turnaround just immediate care, dignity, and community. This life changing work is only possible because of our donors. Thank you for investing in our scholars and believing in their success.
