Team Libertad offers airport accompaniment to travelers who have been released from Steward Detention Center (immigration detention) who are now on the final leg of their journey to reunite with family and friends across the U.S. . One of our dedicated volunteers was working alongside four of our travelers, all Arabic speakers, with one fluent in English, to find an affordable flight to LaGuardia. They were on their way to a shelter in New York and wanted nothing more than to stay together. Some of them had funds for tickets, while others did not. With compassion and determination, she discovered an inexpensive flight leaving in two days. The two who had the means selflessly agreed to buy all four tickets, ensuring that their bond would remain unbroken.

As another volunteer was driving them to a place for hospitality, they explained to her that they considered themselves to be brothers even though they were from four different countries: Morocco, Egypt, Angola, and Ivory Coast.

We are consistently inspired by the remarkable kindness and strength of those who have endured tremendous hardships and trauma to arrive at this point.
