Huge news for children in Nebraska and across the Midwest! Proton beam therapy is a major advancement in cancer treatment, delivering high-precision radiation and reducing exposure to healthy tissue. For children, this can mean fewer long-term side effects and better outcomes for years to come.

The need for greater access is especially important in our region. As Dr. Charles Enke, UNMC Radiology Department Chair noted, "Many of these machines are on the East Coast, an increasing number on the West Coast. The central United States is considered a proton desert."

This exciting advancement is bringing world-class cancer treatment closer to home for children and families throughout Nebraska and surrounding states.

While progress is being made, there is still so much work to do to ensure children have access to better treatments and brighter futures.
