Today, we were happy to welcome a longtime Atkinson resident to the station as he thanked the crew (Lt. Whitley, FF/EMT Lemay, FF/EMT Gill, Plaistow Paramedic Gilbert) that responded to his cardiac emergency in June this year.
After developing chest pain at home, he called 911. An Atkinson crew of three on duty responded, with Plaistow ALS automatically responding as well.
Our crew quickly recognized a serious cardiac emergency, began treatment, and started transport. Plaistow ALS provided paramedic-level care enroute, while the hospital prepared for his arrival. He went directly to the cardiac catheterization lab, where doctors opened blockage in his LAD artery- the heart attack often referred to as the “widow maker."
From his 911 call to the blockage being treated was less than 60 minutes.
Today, he returned to the station after completing his 3 months of cardiac rehab this past week, and proudly shared that he is doing great. Seeing him healthy and smiling made the crews day.
This is what proper staffing, training, and our partnership with Plaistow ALS can accomplish when every minute matters.
We thank the community for your continued support.
