We are incredibly grateful for the support shown during Thurman Maple Days. Thanks to the generosity of our visitors, community members, and the Thurman Community Association, over $3,000 was raised for the Thurman Volunteer Fire Company.

This brings us closer to purchasing additional life-saving AEDs for our department and the community we proudly serve. Every donation, every visit, and every show of support helps strengthen our mission.

From all of us at Thurman Volunteer Fire Company - thank you for standing with us and helping us continue to protect Thurman. ๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ

During Thurman Maple Days, every stop played a part in something bigger.

Each location collected donations for the Thurman Volunteer Fire Company โ€”and over three weekends, it added up:

๐Ÿ’ฐ $2,008.75 raised by visitors
๐Ÿค + $1,000 matched by the Thurman Community Association
โžก๏ธ Total: $3,008.75

Thatโ€™s nearly enough for two AEDsโ€”equipment that can make a life-saving difference when every second counts.

Thurman events have a meaningful impact on our economy and directly benefit our community. Thank you to everyone who came out, supported the tour, and contributed along the way.

๐Ÿšจ WINTER WEATHER ALERT: Extreme Cold & Heavy Snow Heading Our Way ๐Ÿšจ

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued multiple advisories for our area. Please take these warnings seriously and prepare now.

โ„๏ธ What to Expect
Dangerously Cold: Wind chills as low as -25ยฐF to -30ยฐF are expected from Friday evening through Saturday morning. Exposure can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.

Heavy Snow: A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Monday evening, with 7+ inches of snow possible.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire Safety & Heating Tips
When the temperatures drop, fire risks go up. Please follow these essential safety rules:

Space Heater Safety: Keep anything that can burn (curtains, furniture, blankets) at least 3 feet away from heating equipment. Always plug heaters directly into a wall outlet, never a power strip.

Check Your Alarms: Ensure your Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Alarms are working properly. CO is a silent killer, especially during winter storms.

Safe Heating Only: Never use a kitchen stove or oven to heat your home.

Generator Safety: If you lose power, only run generators outdoors and away from windows to prevent CO poisoning.

๐Ÿงค Personal & Pet Safety
Limit Exposure: Stay indoors if possible. If you must go out, dress in several layers and cover all exposed skin with hats, masks, and gloves.

Protect Pets: Bring all pets indoors. If itโ€™s too cold for you, itโ€™s too cold for them.

Travel with Caution: Consider delaying travel during the storm on Sunday/Monday. If you must drive, keep an emergency kit in your car.

Stay warm and stay safe, neighbors!

Rest easy, Steve. Weโ€™ve got it from here. ๐Ÿš’

Happy New Year from all the members here at Thurman Fire!

This past Christmas, we were hoping to have AEDs under our Tree!๐ŸŽ„ AEDs that would help protect both our community and our membership! We are raising funds from generous donors like you to outfit our three fire trucks and three chief's vehicles each with a potentially life saving AEDs. Thankfully, a few of our members are CPR and AED certified instructors so we will be training our members in the near future on these crucial lifesaving skills. We are grateful to announce that we have already received a donation of funds to purchase one AED from the Price Chopper Golub Foundation! These AEDs cost approximately $1,900 total each delivered to our door. If you, somebody you know, or an organization you are familiar with would be in a position to donate directly to us at Thurman Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. please share this post and click the link below to donate immediately online or consider sending a check using the address below.
