Home on the Range Cabin Home on the Range Cabin is the original site where the song "Home on the Range" was born in 1871.

The mission of non-profit Home on Range/Peoples Heartland Foundation is to Preserve History, Promote Education and Protect an International Treasure. In 1871, in his dugout on the bank of the West Beaver Creek in Smith County, KS, Dr. Brewster Higley VI penned the words to a poem titled "My Western Home". It was later set to music by Dan Kelly and the refrain added by Judge John Harlan; the song "Home on the Range" was born.
