Acropolis: Athens’ Innovation Festival is a brand-new initiative to promote Athens innovators and our energetic culture of creators and forward-thinkers. Brought together by a coalition of volunteers representing leaders in local business, academia, government and more — and spearheaded by Athens-Clarke County’s Economic Development Department — Acropolis will span the entire month of April. By kn
itting together events held by innovators all over the city, we seek to make Acropolis’ inaugural occasion the opening of an ongoing conversation with Athenians and folks from the world around us. It’s time we made a city-wide effort to let the world know about how Athens has grown into an ascendant outpost for modern and inventive thinkers and businesses and a bastion of good culture and community in the Southeast. Acropolis exists in large part to bring promotional efforts for dozens of exciting Athens events, organizations and thought leaders under a big tent, combining our powers, audiences and status as influencers to push forward a new narrative about what Athens is and can be. Over the long term, we hope that our efforts will support, and even foster, further growth of the Athens economy and enriching of its culture by inspiring talented UGA graduates to stay in Athens to found their business or start their career, attracting the eye of investors to Athens-grown companies and adding to Athens’ reputation as a cultural capital of the Southeast a new status as a renowned breeding ground where ambitious ideas and projects thrive.
