STRUCTURE FIRE RESPONSE

This morning, just before 8:00 AM, East Limestone Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Bill Walker Rd. Crews arrived to find the home fully involved with heavy smoke and fire showing.

Firefighters established a water shuttle supply, advanced attack lines, and worked to bring the fire under control. The fire was declared out shortly before 10:00 AM, and crews remained on scene for an extended period to complete overhaul and ensure no hot spots remained.

No injuries were reported.

A response like this does not happen alone. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Ardmore Fire and Elkmont Fire & Rescue for their mutual aid and tanker support. Your crews made a real difference today, and we are grateful to stand shoulder to shoulder with you.

This is what neighbors helping neighbors looks like. When the tones drop, we answer together.

Fuel cost in 2025: $7,150.
Projected cost in 2026: $10,800.

A 51% jump. Same trucks. Same calls. Same mission.

We need 2,000 gallons of diesel and 200 gallons of gas to respond for a full year. Our goal is $12,000 to cover it and build a small reserve.

Any amount fuels the next call. If you can't give, share this with three people who would.

SAFETY REMINDER FROM EAST LIMESTONE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

We recently responded to a house fire that started from a countertop air fryer. The homeowners weren’t cooking. They were sitting on the couch watching TV when the appliance began to smoke and burn.

Because they were home, and because they had a fire extinguisher within reach, they saved their house.

Take a minute today and do two things:

1. Unplug countertop appliances when you’re not using them. Air fryers, toasters, coffee makers, can openers. If it’s not in use, it doesn’t need to be powered.
2. Know where your fire extinguisher is, and make sure it’s accessible. Not buried in a cabinet. Not behind the trash can. Within arm’s reach of your kitchen.

Fires don’t wait for you to be ready. Take the few seconds now that could save your home later.

One County. One Mission.

Nothing like the sound of a few hundred elementary schoolers losing their minds over a deck gun.

We took Engine 217 out to Johnson Elementary today for field day, opened her up, and let the kids run straight through the spray. Cooled them off, soaked us right back, and turned a hot afternoon into something they’ll be talking about all summer.

Days like this remind us why we do this. Not the calls, not the gear, not the training. The faces. The laughter. The little hand that waves at the truck on the way out because for one afternoon, we were the coolest thing they’d ever seen.

Johnson Elementary, thank you for letting us crash your party. Keep raising good kids. We’ll keep showing up.

Training day at East Limestone Fire Department.

The Alabama Fire College brought their Mobile Apparatus Simulation Lab to us, and our crew got after it. Driving simulator. Pump operator simulator. Real scenarios, real decisions, zero risk to the public while our people sharpen their skills.

You do not rise to the level of the call. You fall to the level of your training. So we train. Hard.

Huge thank you to the Alabama Fire College team for pouring into the men and women who serve this community. Training never stops. Getting better never stops.

One County. One Mission.
