We have the great honor to celebrate" The Art of Dicky Simpson". A long time resident of Athens, Dicky was a veteran, a navigator with the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served his country courageously. Dicky was also a science and math teacher in local schools. H was a voracious reader and one of his favorite places was E.G. Fisher Library! When he retired , he decided to try painting, using Bob Ross as his guide. To save money he took the acoustical tiles off his attic ceiling to use as canvases. After painting each tile, he would put it back in the ceiling creating a mosaic with them. His friends affectionately named his attic "The Dicktine Chapel". This show is made up of those tiles, and a look into that world. He enjoyed painting many subjects, including landscapes, butterflies, and abstracts. The Hubble Telescope plays a significant role in his art, capturing the awe-inspiring universe of galaxies. Dicky is missed but never forgotten. Dicky's artworks are on exhibit through the end of March 2025, in the Mayfield Family Gallery at the E. G. Fisher Library in Athens.
