MEDLIFE at UGA

MEDLIFE at UGA Donate to our cause here: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/medlife-2019-2020 We host local service projects and often fund them through grants.

We are a service organization dedicated to freeing the poor from the burdens of disease and poverty, both here in Athens and abroad in Latin America and Tanzania. MEDLIFE at UGA is an organization for any major, but we typically focus on issues within global health. For instance, we used our 2013-2014 Volunteer UGA Sustainability Grant to make both cosmetic and structural repairs to Athens Nurses

Clinic a local clinic which serves the undeserved Athens community. Within these repairs included new bulletin boards, painting various rooms. As well we were able to provide new office furniture to provide a better environment for patients and employees. We also provide volunteer opportunities for our students by working with other non-profits such as MedShare, UGA Red Cross, the Northeast Georgia Food Bank, Designated Dawgs, and Mercy Clinic to name a few. Aside from local service projects, we host fundraisers for our parent non-profit, National MEDLIFE. (www.medlifeweb.org) Fundraisers include but are not limited to our annual benefit concert featuring local bands at a venue close to downtown called Nuci's Space. We also host a 5K every year where in 2013 we were able to raise a total of $1700. In addition to our larger fundraisers, we also hold frequent scarf sales at Tate Plaza and the Broad Street Athens Farmers' Market. In addition to these efforts, a main focus of MEDLIFE at UGA is to send students on mobile medical clinics in Peru, Ecuador, Tanzania, and India. These clinics allow students to attain hands-on experiences in shadowing doctors and providing health care abroad. MEDLIFE at UGA strives to be an efficient and effective organization that not only gives sustainable aid to impoverished communities but also provides leadership and service opportunities to the students of UGA.
