Athens City Schools Foundation A 501(c) nonprofit organization supporting teachers and students of Athens City Schools.

The Athens City Schools Foundation was created in 1994 as a way to provide much-needed resources to teachers and students. Through donations, the Foundation Board of Directors implements programs that support its mission. Currently, the Foundation funds approximately $10,000 in teacher classroom grants each year, supports the violin program that is led by the Huntsville Symphony School and is prov

ided, free of charge, to every third grade student, and provides financial resources to students in need.

Supporting our schools is easy. Simply add a monthly donation of any amount to your Athens Utilities bill. Every dollar stays local and helps fund programs that enrich student learning and support our educators, including:
*Teacher Classroom Grants
*The 3rd Grade Violin Program
*Student enrichment opportunities
*Innovative classroom resources
*And many other impactful initiatives

The Athens City Schools Foundation is excited to offer ACS Teacher Classroom Grants for the 2026-2027 school year! A limited number of $500 individual teacher grants and $1,000 teacher team grants will be awarded. All applications will be reviewed through a competitive selection process. Consider something unique and exciting that you could do with your students with the help of a Foundation teacher grant! For details, including the online application, visit acsf.acs-k12.org/grants. Completed applications, along with the required Statement of Support, must be submitted by June 5, 2026.

Since 1997, the Athens City Schools Foundation has connected community support with classrooms, funding programs such as the Third Grade Violin Program, the Teacher of the Year Gratitude Banquet, Teacher Classroom Grants, and more.

🔈REMINDER Athens City Schools will dismiss early on Wednesday, April 15, as scheduled in the 2025-2026 ACS Academic Calendar.

Early Dismissal Schedule:
*Pre-K 10:45 AM
*K-3 11:15 AM
*AIS 11:20 AM
*AMS 11:30 AM
*AHS 11:45 AM

Buses will depart at the school's early dismissal time. Please plan for your bus rider to arrive home earlier than usual. Latchkey will NOT be available. If you have any questions, please contact your school.

✨Alabama State Board of Education District 8 Representative Dr. Wayne Reynolds and City of Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks recently visited Athens High School to personally congratulate Mr. Michael May on being named the District 8 Secondary Teacher of the Year! One of just sixteen finalists for Alabama Teacher of the Year, Mr. May was selected from more than 155 outstanding educators across the state. At AHS, Mr. May teaches Engineering Design classes in the CTE Engineering Pathway, where students explore hands-on, project-based learning through 3D printing, Arduino electronics, generative AI, and more. Under his leadership, the AHS Technology Students Association (TSA) chapter has earned the Most Outstanding Chapter for six consecutive years—a state record! With over two decades of experience in ACS, Mr. May continues to inspire and prepare students for future success. We are of Mr. May and wish him the very best as he continues in this prestigious competition! 🖤💛

✨ CONGRATS to Athens High School teacher Michael May on being named one of the “Sweet Sixteen” finalists for the 2026–2027 Alabama Teacher of the Year! 🎉 Selected from more than 155 outstanding educators across the state, Mr. May represents the heart, passion, and excellence that define ACS. His commitment to innovation, achievement, and leadership shines in everything he does.

Mr. May teaches Engineering Design classes in the AHS Career and Technical Education Engineer Pathway, where students dive into hands-on, project-based learning through the engineering design process, 3D printing, Arduino electronics, generative AI, and more. Under his leadership, the AHS Technology Students Association (TSA) chapter has earned the Most Outstanding Chapter for six consecutive years—a state record! Blending high expectations with a student-centered approach, Mr. May challenges and supports every learner, preparing them for future success while inspiring them to reach their full potential. Originally from Michigan, May brings more than 20 years of experience, all with Athens City Schools, and continues to make a lasting impact in the lives of his students each and every day.
