If you’ve ever been to an event at Bear Hollow Zoo, you’ve likely met one of their incredible ambassador animals! But what exactly does that mean?

While all of the animals within Bear Hollow Zoo help educate the community, ambassador animals take this a step further. By letting us safely connect up close, they spark a personal connection. Hearing directly from the zoo staff about how vital these animals are inspires young minds and adults alike to learn more and strive to protect the species that make our world so special.

The zoo's box turtles are a perfect example of this! With their curious personalities, they show visitors that they aren’t just something to read about in books, but a vital part of the ecosystem we share right in our own backyards. 🐢❤️

It’s National Zoo and Aquarium Month! We can’t let that slip by without calling attention to our amazing little Athens treasure, Bear Hollow Zoo!

This little zoo has helped families make memories for generations, bringing nature right within arms reach. A visit not only has the fun of seeing excited animals, but also brings curiosity as you learn new things, and serenity as you walk through the beautiful wooded trails.

We hope you’ll take time this summer to visit, enjoy nature, and learn a little something new about the animals who live around us.

Happy National Alligator Day 🐊 Please enjoy this Maizie photo bomb as we say… THANK YOU!

As we wrap up May, we are looking back on what has been one of our busiest event months yet! From celebrating Yonah and Athena’s Sweet 16 bear birthday, to Monthly Giving Awareness Week, and wrapping up with our ice cream social at Jeni’s, our calendar was well packed and our hearts full!

We have to take the moment to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who supported us this month. Our community is our foundation and we quite literally could not do this work without you! No matter how you choose to support, whether it's monthly giving, buying merch, or sharing a post.. it all makes a huge difference.

We also have to say thank you to Maizie on this special National Alligator Day for simply being one of the best alligators we know! 🐊✨ Next time you visit Bear Hollow Zoo, be sure to say hello!

A huge thank you to everyone in our wonderful community who came out to grab a scoop and support our fundraising efforts yesterday!

We also want to give a shoutout to Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams for hosting us, and a special thank you to Kimi for being absolutely amazing and helping us get everything set up!

We hope everyone enjoyed soaking up a little bit of sun with their ice cream and we can’t wait to do this again in the future 🐻🧡

Today is a big day! Not only is it World Otter Day, but tonight is our ice cream social at Jeni’s! 🍦🦦

From 4 PM – 7 PM, head over to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams for a sweet treat. A portion of your purchase tonight directly supports all we do for Bear Hollow Zoo; and for Otter Bee the River Otter, that support often looks like new enrichment items that keep his curious mind busy and having fun!

While you’re enjoying your ice cream, make sure to stop by our table to check out our merchandise. We’re shining a spotlight today on our (super cute) otter plushies! They are made entirely from recycled water bottles which is a perfect way to celebrate World Otter Day by keeping plastic out of wild otter waterways.

🍦 TOMORROW IS THE DAY! Join us at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams for our Ice Cream Social fundraiser! Wednesday, May 27th 4pm-7pm

Enjoy a scoop and know that a portion of all sales goes directly to Friends of Bear Hollow to support habitat enhancements, animal enrichment and more at Bear Hollow Zoo.

We will be set up right out front with our merch table, so stop by to say hi and maybe grab a tote bag or two! Every purchase goes right back into supporting the zoo.
