The DALF family holds heavy hearts today with the news of the passing of Kevin Carlan, President and co-founder of AlanFest. Services will be held Friday, 6-8pm at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home Eastside location (4355 Lexington Rd, Athens, GA) and Memorial Service Saturday 3pm at Temple United Methodist Church (2467 Wire Bridge Rd, Arnoldsville, GA).

Donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate) in honor of Kevin, acknowledgements sent to Jan and James Carlan, 5411 Charles City Rd, Charles City, VA 23030 and toward the scholarship he so dearly worked to endow at AlanFest.org, mailed donations to David Alan Lewis Foundation, 190 Sherwood Dr, Athens, GA 30606.

A Sunday spreading of the ashes ceremony will be held for close family and friends at Bull Sluice on the Chattooga River with the request that each person bring a flower.

Dyar Pasture Recreation Area

A 60-acre freshwater wetland built as a cooperative project with the U.S. Forest Service, Georgia DNR, Georgia Power and Ducks Unlimited.

Dyar Pasture is a bird sanctuary and a birders paradise. Outfitted with a d**e and water control system to control water levels, the management of this area enables a healthy and sustainable waterfowl habitat necessary for the continued survival of this wetland ecosystem.

The area has picnicking and fishing opportunities, a boat launch with access to the Oconee River and Lake Oconee and a short hiking trail, making Dyar Pasture a fantastic place for a day of birding and appreciating a wetland habitat.

If you're looking for fishin' hole near Athens, here ya go... :-)
