We were busy last month!
- 29 Forensic Interviews: when an allegation of abuse is made, kids come to the kid-friendly LCAC to talk about it with our interviewer.
- 20 Family Advocacy Sessions: the LCAC provides family/caregiver support and services whenever a kid comes in for a Forensic Interview.
- 86 Counseling Sessions: the LCAC offers Trauma Focused counseling free of charge to all kids who've completed a Forensic Interview.
- 12 Parenting Classes: Weekly classes held at the LCAC are free and open to the public.
- 12 hours Child Safety Matters: the LCAC gives age-appropriate presentations in schools to teach kids what they can do to help adults protect them from abuse.
- 16 Parent Support Sessions: the in-home, hands on version of our Parenting Classes.
- 2 Mental Health Fairs: The LCAC participated in mental health fairs at the Athens High School and the Limestone County High Schools.

The Limestone CAC provides all of these services free of charge. We are grateful for all of our funding from grants and private donations. Please consider donating to the LCAC here: https://givebutter.com/Limestone_CAC

ChatGPT and other AI tools have been designed "to emotionally entangle users, without the safeguards needed to protect them. They prioritized market dominance over mental health, engagement metrics over human safety, and emotional manipulation over ethical design."

When the user is a teenager in crisis, ChatGPT's manipulation gets dangerous very quickly.

There are lawsuits to hold these companies accountable, but in these cases the damage to our impressionable young people has already been done. More information about those cases is here: https://socialmediavictims.org/chatgpt-lawsuits/

Please continue having conversations kids in your life about various ways companies - AI and others - use engagement to manipulate people. This is a problem that will never go away so we need to continue practicing discretion.

Yesterday, the Limestone County community gathered together to Save Jane.

Too often the experiences of children – especially those who may be facing harm - go unseen, unheard, and unspoken.

Now, we choose something different.

We choose to acknowledge, to bear witness, and to refuse to look away.

The names 1,143 names read represent actual children in Limestone County.

They are children in our communities, in our systems. They are our shared responsibility.

Each name represents a young person who deserves to be safe,
to be protected, to be surrounded with care.

These names reflect children in Limestone County in the last year, who were reported as possibly experiencing abuse.

As the names were read, those gathered listened with intention, not assumption, not personal bias, but attention and awareness.

Let each name be a reminder to all of us of why this work matters, and of the role each of us can play in creating safer communities for our children.

Thank you, thank you for holding this moment with us.

Hearing 1,143 names is difficult, but it matters that we hear it, because behind every number is a child who deserves to be safe, to be supported, and to be seen.

The work of Save Jane does not end here. It continues in the choices we make – Choices to notice, to speak up, to believe and support children and families.

Working together across our community to protect children.

Because every child deserves more than to be named.
They deserve to be safe.

Public Invited • Free to Attend

Tomorrow, we gather to honor our local children.
Beginning at 10:30 AM on the South East Courthouse lawn, we will read the names and ages of local children reported abused in the past year—recognized as Jane Doe or John Doe to protect their identity—while ensuring they are seen, heard, and never forgotten.

It takes a village to protect children.
Be part of that village.

Please Share to help us honor every child.

The Limestone CAC wants to express sincere gratitude to the Limestone County Commission for officially proclaiming April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. This recognition is more than symbolic, t’s a powerful reminder that protecting our children is a shared responsibility.

By shining a light on this issue, we are encouraging awareness, prevention, and support for families in our community. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, nurturing environment, and it takes all of us—neighbors, educators, leaders, and advocates—to make that a reality.

Thank you to the Commission for taking this important step and for standing with those who work every day to protect and uplift our children. 💙
