Be The Match At UGA

Be The Match At UGA The registry is a list of people who are willing to donate their bone marrow to any patient that needs a marrow transplant and has a matching tissue type.

Be The Match Foundation is a nonprofit organizations dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it. **What we stand for as a Student Organization**

Be the Match at UGA is a student run organization that works closely with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to raise awareness and recruit people

to the NMDP Be The Match Registry. Our mission statement as an organization is to bring hope and offer a second chance at life to those diagnosed with diseases such as Leukemia. We do this by holding bone marrow drives on the UGA campus, mainly in the Tate center lawn area. By holding drives, we don't only increase the number of potential life savers but increase the awareness of something like the bone marrow registry so that students are more aware that something like this does exist and is a real cure for cancer!

"No matter what, the opportunity to see a life changed firsthand is just what the doctor ordered."

Seven-year-old Adriana has been cancer-free since 2016 because of a miracle donation from Mark, a college student who signed up for the registry with Be the Match.

He signed up to be a donor in 2016. This year, he met the girl he helped save.

When Trevor Harris was only 8 years old, he was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Fanconi anemia that causes bone marrow failure. With his bone marrow functioning at only 5%, he was in desperate need of a transplant and, luckily, happened to be a match with Danny from Dallas, Texas. With Trevor being a huge comic lover, creating their superhero was the perfect tool for his parents to communicate with their child what was happening to his body. Marrow Man has grown to become a nonprofit to support families of children who have bone marrow illnesses and raise awareness of the importance of bone marrow donation! The Harris family even made comic books for other children going through similar situations.

Shows the origins of Marrow Man and informs the viewer on how to become a bone marrow donor. It stars Trevor an 8 year old boy with Fanconi Anemia who is rec...

Twelve-year-old Alex Pasichnyk was diagnosed with a rare blood disease, and after months of her family hosting drives to find a match for Alex, they were finally successful! The transfusion is done, and Alex is still waiting to see if the donor cells will produce healthy blood cells. We are rooting for you, Alex! Join the registry so families like the Pasichnyks have a more diverse network of potential donors and don’t have to host their own drives!

After months of searching for a bone marrow donor and finally finding one, a 12-year-old St. Albert girl underwent the procedure she desperately needed Wednesday.
