Pictured below is Barry Estep and Janie Estep. Both are members of our church. Barry is our sound man and is going through a rough journey. He was diagnosed with polycystic kidneys. Both kidneys were removed in January 2020. He is in need of a kidney and our church wore green in support of him today. If you or someone you know would be interested in learning more about becoming a donor, please feel free to message me.

Please take a moment to watch this video. Barry was recently recognized for the work he does for Pope Avenue Baptist Church. Barry is in need of a kidney and it is our duty as his friends and family to help him find one. We have prayed about it and we know that God will send him a match. We just need your help putting the need out there. Share this video!! And if you or anyone you know is wanting further information on how to become a donor, please have them private message me.

Unfortunately, the donor kidney was not a viable match for Barry. Please continue to pray that a match is found.

Folks, we have some awesome news. As I write this, Barry and Janie are on their way to Vanderbilt. They received a call that there is a donor match. They will begin the testing phase on Barry as soon as they get him settled in and determine if this is indeed a final match and proceed with surgery at a time to be determined later (possibly as early as tomorrow). Please be in prayer for them as they travel, for the testing phase, pray for a perfect match so that the surgery can be scheduled, and that recovery will go as planned. Dont forget, wear green in support of this family next Sunday!!

My name is Barry Estep. I am a husband, father, grandfather, devout Christian, and community servant. I have been a southeast Tennessee resident since the early 1970s. Currently, I reside in Athens, TN with my wife, Janie. We are members of Pope Avenue Baptist Church, where I oversee the sound system for all services and special events. In 2016, I began my journey of kidney dialysis due to a diagnosis of polycystic kidneys. I underwent kidney removal on January 3, 2020 and was placed on the donor registry list. I am still awaiting a kidney at this time and continuing dialysis 3-4 days a week. I am utilizing this page in hopes of connecting with potential donors. There is strict criteria in place to be a donor. If you wish to learn more about how and if you could be my potential donor, please feel free to contact the site administrator through private message.

Good evening friends. I just wanted to update you on Barry's progress today. He has been able to get up and walk throughout the day. He is still having some bouts with dizziness from time to time. However, he was able to sit up for quite awhile. He will be having dialysis tomorrow. So far, his progress is moving along as expected. The road to healing is one that will take several weeks. But he is being told that he could potentially be eligible to receive a transplant as early as 6 weeks, when a matching donor can be located.

Folks, this family is one that I think dearly of. Barry has crossed one hurdle and now another awaits him in the distance. We have to find him a kidney! As you can see below, both kidneys were greatly impacted by cysts, which caused them not to function properly therefore removal was the safest option with continuation of dialysis. Please help me in rallying around Barry and Janie during this time. You can help them the most with your prayers and passing the word along to anyone and everyone about his need for a kidney. If you or someone you know would be interested in finding out more about how to become a potential living donor, please feel free to contact me by Facebook, Messenger, phone call or text (cell number is 423-244-5887).
