I recently listened to Mayor Dickerson speak about how a grocery store was successfully brought into a food desert through the use of a Tax Allocation District (TAD). It was a powerful reminder that solutions exist when leaders are willing to think creatively and act boldly.
Too often, we hear what cannot be done. For years, ACC has been quick to explain why certain projects won’t work, why investments can’t happen, or why underserved communities must wait. Yet over the last seven years, many of us have been saying and proving that it can be done.
The success of this grocery store is proof. When there is vision, commitment, and a willingness to use the tools available, communities can attract investment, create opportunities, and improve quality of life.
As always, we must be careful not to dismiss possibilities simply because we don’t fully understand them. Instead of focusing on barriers, let’s focus on solutions. Our communities deserve leaders who ask, “How can we make this happen?” rather than, “Why it can’t be done.”
The proof is right in front of us.
