With a HUGE donation to the 4th Annual Atchison Spring Seed Fair that will be hosted at the Atchison Public Library on Feb 7th 2026, we have been handed an incredible opportunity to help all of our neighbors in Atchison County.

If you, your church or organization have interest in starting a community garden anywhere in Atchison County please reach out to this page, C.M. King or the committee of Merrywood Community Garden for support in achieving your goal.

Primary partners encouraged are from nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, assisted living facilities, churches with empty lots, 501c's with adjacent fallow land, schools and educational facilities as well as apartment dwellings with communal and permissible access to an approved planting area. If you have an idea we havent thought of, please submit your request with details for consideration.

We have plenty of viable seed ready to support your project. Please reach out!

We just had a HUGE donation of seed for the upcoming 4th Annual Atchison Spring Seed Fair! This doubles our available stock. Remember folks, this is a free event and all seed is free to the public. Be sure to come down the Atchison Public Library and get your garden started!

A very special thank you to the 9 volunteers that joined together to package seed for the upcoming event! While we sat, chatted and had snacks... we made amazing progress on an easy but very time consuming task.

Next weekend on Saturday, we will assemble again at the Atchison Public Library from 9am to 2pm to continue the process. Please RSVP by messaging this page or by reaching out to Levi Gabriel.

Thank you all for supporting this grassroots community project and for the support you show each other. From all indications, this year's event will be fantastic!

It's only 34 days until the 4th Annual Atchison Spring Seed Fair at the Atchison Public Library!

As a team, we have a LOT to accomplish this month. If you'd like to volunteer to package bulk seed with a warm hearted and fun group at Project Concern, Inc. please reach out to [email protected] or message Levi Gabriel and/or this page directly. Bulk seed will be available after Jan 10th for packaging, please keep a look out for a coinciding group session.

For those of you just now learning about this event... the seed fair was established in 2023 as a community outreach project in tandem with the Atchison Gardening Community Facebook group that realized the cost concerns with modern private agriculture were challenging. Now sponsored by Live Well Atchison County, Inc., this project has blossomed into an event that hosted 300-400 guests last spring and will undoubtedly pack the house at the library this year. Please be respectful to your surroundings and be sure to shop the dollar book section for literary gems before you depart.

This event is free to the public, cashless and welcomes small agriculturalists to offer their seed as well as receive some from the tables presented. Please only take what you can plant and leave what you can spare. If root stock is offered, please use containers and offer packaging that will keep the floor clear of dirt.

The event will offer space to Community relief agencies dedicated to providing fresh produce to the public such as the Merrywood Community Garden and The Garden of FPC, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, as well as the MU Extension 4-H in Atchison County, the K-State Research and Extension - Atchison County. All other agencies and organizations seeking representation, please RSVP so we can reserve you space. There are no spaces for vendors nor businesses at this event. TBA is a guest speaker on regenerative soil structures that we hope to book.

There are so many special thanks to depart that I don't know where to begin... so I will share that I and many others thank you Atchison for the warm welcome of this event and may all your gardens be prosperous!
