Sunday Success Story: Meet Kiara & Her Two Little Girls ๐กโจ
When you first meet Kiara, what stands out is her gentleness. Her soft smile. The way she looks at her daughters with so much love that you can feel it. Her oldest daughter is constantly giggling and exploring, while her youngest is content curled up in her mother's arms. Watching them together, it's hard to imagine everything they've overcome to get here.
Kiara first experienced homelessness at just 18 years old.
For years, her life was marked by instability. She struggled with fentanyl addiction, moving between her car, motel rooms, and treatment programs, trying to find her footing. Then came a life-altering moment that led Kiara to make a choice about the future she wanted for herself and her daughter.
"I was really lucky to survive," she shares. "Then I realized I had a choice to make. Drugs or being their mom. I chose to be their mom."
That choice wasn't easy but day after day, Kiara kept choosing her daughters.
"Since having my girls, it's been a really beautiful experience. We've gone through hard times, but it's worked out. They're just so perfect. I'm a girl mom!" she says with a glowing smile.
When Kiara arrived at ECHO, she was just days away from giving birth to her youngest daughter.
Before that, she had completed treatment at Brian's House and sought safety through Lumina Alliance after fleeing a domestic violence relationship. Without family to lean on, she relied on the support of community resources.
"The best decision I made was coming to ECHO for my daughters," Kiara says.
Many of you may remember when we shared a need for a young mother with two little girls, including a newborn baby. This community responded in an incredible way. Gifts poured in. Baby essentials arrived. One donor gifted a double stroller that Kiara still uses every single day.
"I got to meet the woman who donated the stroller," Kiara shares. "She's really sweet. She even came to my daughter's birthday party."
At ECHO, Kiara found more than a place to stay.
"We felt safe there," she says. "I had really sweet neighbors. Everyone always checked in on us and the girls."
Today, we are overjoyed to share that Kiara and her daughters have moved into a two-bedroom apartment of their own!๐ ๐กโจ
As she shares the news, her youngest daughter sleeps peacefully nearby while her oldest runs around laughing and playing in their new home.
"We are all the happiest we've ever been," Kiara says through a huge smile. "Our first place on our own."
And there is even more to celebrate.
Kiara is now approaching two years sober! ๐
Now she's looking ahead. Her dream is to return to college and become a drug and alcohol counselor, helping others find the same hope and healing she fought so hard to find for herself.
Kiara's story is one of resilience, redemption, and a mother's love.
Join us in celebrating Kiara and her girls! ๐ธ
