Friends of Joy Playground

Joy Playground is an inclusive playground at Colony Park in Atascadero. It is open to the public from dawn to dusk. Joy Playground is a City Park.

Joy Playground was possible because a group of dedicated volunteers fundraised and built SLO County's firs

t fully inclusive playground geared towards children and adults with special needs at Colony Park in Atascadero. It officially opened in April 2019 and is a City Park open to the public. Fundraising continues for ongoing maintenance and potentially a new splash pad next to the playground. Leadership of this effort has transitioned from Parents for Joy to Parents Helping Parents as of June 2022.

Our Story

Parents For Joy is a group of parents, families, teachers and friends working towards getting an inclusive playground built in Atascadero, CA. It will be geared towards special needs children and adults, but open to all in the community. Atascadero is a small town on the Central Coast of California. We want all kids to be able to play at a playground that is safe and fun for them. We hope to build this playground so that everyone can play together and build friendships that will last a lifetime.
