While USLTRCD might be known for pollinator hedgerow plantings, local fuel reduction projects, and conservation efforts, we’re also involved in an exciting research project in partnership with the US Department of Energy.

With research partners across the country, we’re exploring the feasibility of a biosolids management and biofuels production process for the Central Coast. Our research includes technologies such as hydrothermal liquefaction and pyrolysis, which could help communities find new ways to manage waste while recovering valuable resources.

In early August, USLTRCD Conservation Project Manager Hailey Morello, who serves as Principal Investigator for the project, had the opportunity to visit PNNL in Washington to collaborate with researchers and technical experts from around the world and learn more about hydrothermal liquefaction. The workshop brought together diverse perspectives and expertise that will help inform the development of hydrothermal liquefaction and related technologies for the Central Coast.

We’re excited to share more about what we’ve learned with our community! In the meantime, click the link in our bio to provide feedback on how you currently use and think about products made from treated waste. Your input will help us better understand local needs, opportunities, and barriers to using these products on the Central Coast.
