In his latest post, David dives into the power of a quiet mind, showing us how to silence the internal and external commentary that follows a missed shot. While we can spend years chasing perfect technique, the players who truly elevate their game are the ones who develop mental stillness.
In Part Nine of The Mental Side of Pickleball, we look at how to slip under the surface to find real clarity and freedom on the courts (and a local club member who models this beautifully!).
Learn how removing the emotional drama from a mistake softens your grip, relaxes your breath, and lets your natural instincts take over.

Pickleball Court Net Extension—Job Well Done!

On Thursday, April 23, at 7:30 a.m., nine men and three women gathered at the outdoor pickleball courts and got straight to work. With extension poles clamped to the fencing, cable hung, and netting carefully installed, the team added an additional 4.5 feet of fencing to help keep balls on the courts and the games moving.

A huge thank‑you goes to the leader of the pack, Dick Avery, and his outstanding work crew: Steve Edmonston, Jerry Leetham, Frank Clyburn, Paul Jordan, Mark Bradford, Brad Matts, Bob Brown, and Curtis Larsen. Their teamwork and dedication made quick work of a big project.

Meanwhile, Colleen Avery, with fantastic assistance from Marilyn Elliott, Marie Larsen, and Tina Huddleston, tackled the shed—cleaning, organizing, and sending many Black Widow spiders off in search of new homes.

The Club sincerely thanks its members for providing the funds to purchase all the necessary supplies, and to everyone who contributed their time and effort to see this project successfully completed. Well done, everyone!

In his latest post, David Pascolla dives into one of the most overlooked skills in pickleball: patience. Why do so many points slip away not from bad shots, but from rushed decisions? And how can learning to slow down, stay composed, and trust the rally completely change your results?

If you’ve ever felt the urge to speed things up—or force a winner that wasn’t there—this one will hit home.

One of the very first suggestions for playing on the advanced side is to “demonstrate proper court, positioning and movement with their partner” Notice the “… and movement with your partner”. Since we play doubles and your partner and yourself are considered a ‘’team’ this is a foundational principle…. namely not staying back at the baseline, but moving in unison with your partner and working your way to the non volley zone. If you’ve ever found yourself confused about this or maybe even a partner who is a bit frustrated with your partner, not wanting to move up with you and instead of staying at the base line then you’re encouraged to check out the excellent skills and drills coming up by Allison Head next Wednesday, April 8
10:45-11:45 AM on the outside courts
Topic to be taught: Stop playing from the baseline! What is KAP and why it matters. 👊🏻🏓

Picklepatty Celebration a Big Hit!

Picklepatty — our St. Patrick’s Day–themed pickleball celebration — was a fantastic success and a whole lot of fun for our club members! A lively Round Robin took place both in the gym and on the outdoor courts, keeping the action going throughout the event.

A total of 48 players participated, each enjoying six games over a two-hour time span. Between matches, players refueled with corned beef sliders, dill pickles, and chips, which were enjoyed by all.

Many thanks to the following people for their wonderful contributions:

Audrey Charles for the super decorations
Jo‑Ella Bullock for the delicious corned beef sliders
Isaac Garnica for his homemade macaroni & cheese
Paula Milham for her appetizer and treat organizing in the gym
Darla Hunt for her game‑timing expertise outside
David Mulvey for game‑timing expertise and player organization in the gym
Marie Larsen for player sign‑in and player organization outside
And the terrific set‑up team: Gail Davidson, Kelly Fontes, Debbie Cannon, Curtis Larsen, and Dick Avery
Many hands were involved in making this event such a success. A super thank‑you to everyone who helped and to everyone who came out to participate—we truly appreciate you!

Warm regards,
PicklePrez Colleen

We look forward to celebrating again next year — pickleball style! ☘️🏓
