Next Tuesday the legendary Sarah from Gathered Bakeshop will demonstrate the fundamentals of baking cookies at the Astoria Library! She will discuss cookie additives and baking strategy, and may even have a few examples to sample 😋

The demonstration will run from 5:30-6:30pm in the flag room downstairs. As always, these demos are free and open to the public.

TOMORROW Brian Medford of Rusty Cup will be demonstrating how to make blueberry jam!
During this demonstration he will show how to make jam and discuss a few different methods for preserving the resulting jam for later.

As usual, the demonstration is free and no registration is required. There may even be a treat at the end.

TOMORROW! Kenzo Booth will be demonstrate how to preserve mushrooms using tools from the new Library of Things, brought to you by the North Coast Food Web and the library! During the demonstration Kenzo will make quick pickles and prepare mushrooms for placing in a dehydrator. As usual, the demonstration is free and no registration is required. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hi and eat some cheese curds this last Saturday at the Astoria Column Centennial celebration! We had a great time chatting with locals, visitors, and other tabling organizations about food and this incredible community.

Wow–thank you to all who participated in our Salad and Song fundraiser last month! Because of you, we raised over $4,000 for our Free Food Box service, all while eating salads sourced from local farmers and listening to the croonings of local musicians, OnDek and Lindsay Bones.

We are especially grateful to the volunteers who made throwing this event possible. From our development committee, who put together beautiful salads and dressings, to our Thursday volunteers and our volunteer board members, who showed up to greet and serve and share good food news. We love that we have these opportunities to celebrate the bounty this community has to offer, with the very same community that offers it.

We are looking for two special persons to join our small team!

Change is in the air—
With the introduction of the Health Related Social Needs (HRSN) program for fruit, vegetable and pantry essentials, we foresee an increase in the demand for local food.

Cue you, a passionate human eager to jump into a growing program and build together.

We’re looking for a community-minded advocate to serve as our new Producer Support Liaison. In this role, you’ll work directly with local farmers and fishers to help get more fresh food onto local plates. This Astoria-based position is 25 hours a week at $39,000 per year and comes with health benefits and paid time off. Applications due April 16th.

We also need a Food Equity Navigator to take our food access work to the next level. You’ll lead the way in adding new healthcare-connected benefits to our current program—handling everything from managing referrals to getting fresh food into the hands of our neighbors. This full-time role is based in Astoria at $65,000 per year and includes comprehensive healthcare. Applications due April 12th.
