If you are looking for an excuse to get outdoors, enjoy this weather, and do some land stewarding--look no further! Join our Coastal Council Service Meeting pulling invasives with our partners at the Lower Nehalem Community Trust at their Elk Meadows property!

Do you know of a natural space on the North Coast that could use some love? Let us know! We're on the lookout for more places to get our councils outdoors and connecting with the land.

Our council meetings are open to the public and informal, if you're curious come on by.

We’re looking for a few more folks to take bacteria samples from Ecola, Logan, and Short Sand creeks this summer. If you’re looking for an excuse to spend time with these beautiful coastal streams and help protect them while you’re at it, this is it! Sampling occurs once every two weeks, and having multiple volunteers keeps their commitment flexible. We provide all training and equipment.

Ideal volunteers will be able to transport samples to the Astoria/Warrenton area for processing within 6 hours.

If you’re interested or want more information, email Kelli at [email protected].

Thanks!

Join us for Earth Day on the Warrenton Waterfront Trail!

We'll meet at the Skipanon River Park entrance at the end of SE 3rd Street in Warrenton and work to remove ivy, Scotch broom, and Himalayan blackberry up to the Harbor Drive bridge. If you're curious about native plants, which plants can cause ecological problems, or why we're doing this work we'll have information to share as well in English and Spanish.

We'll provide coffee, beverages, snacks, and pastries as well as hand tools needed to get the job done 💪

Come for any length of time between 9am-12pm.

See you soon!

April 23rd is the next Nature Matters and it's all about where salmon, plants, habitat features, and even beaver dams are on the Oregon north coast!

Salmon habitat is the cornerstone of watershed restoration and enhancement work for Oregon’s North Coast. As we learn how to steward our freshwater ecosystems, it’s important to see if the fish benefit from it when they return to complete their life cycle! In 2025 the North Coast Watershed Association (NCWA), the Necanicum Watershed Council (NWC), Bio-surveys LLC and our partners completed the 3 rd consecutive year of salmon and trout habitat snorkel surveys encompassing the full cohort of Coho salmon, which have a 3-year life cycle. The survey covered over 200 miles of streams and collected data on plants, water temperature, stream habitat features, fish numbers, barriers, and even beaver dams along the way! There is so much to share from this endeavor and the creation of the first basin-scale baseline for salmon and trout populations for this area. This data will become a key tool for us and our watershed partners to measure the effectiveness of our restoration and enhancement projects. Join Jeremy Lees of Bio-surveys LLC and Graham Klag, Executive Director of the NCWA, for a deep dive into this incredible information about the health of our local ecosystems!

The April 23rd Nature Matters presentation takes place at 7 p.m. in the Lovell Taproom at the Fort George Brewery. The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for those wanting to purchase dinner or beverages before the event.

River Council Meeting: Wednesday Feb 11 at Astoria Library from 5:30-6:30

NCWA staff will talk about our juvenile coho snorkel survey data, share about riparian restoration happening along the Lewis and Clark River and Bear Creek, and a newly funded project to remove invasive species from along the Skipanon River.

Do you have an idea for habitat restoration in Knappa, Svensen, Brownsmead, Olney, Lewis and Clark, Warrenton, or Astoria? We're all ears!

Our Council Meetings are open to the public and create space for us to share our work and for folks to bring their ideas for future projects. Hope to see you there!

NCWA Coastal Council Meeting January 26th!

We will be discussing beavers from the Doris Davis pond in Manzanita to the Ecola Creek Forest Reserve at our upcoming Coastal Council Meeting, as well as sharing about our recently-wrapped snorkel surveys that detail where we have juvenile coho in our watersheds—and how we might help them increase their numbers.

These meetings are open to the public and are spaces where the NCWA can share our current and potential habitat restoration projects and hope to hear new ideas for new ones from participants.

Where: Pine Grove Community House
When: Monday, January 26 from 5:30-6:30

Preserving the Oregon coast forever!

Nature Matters is a lively monthly conversation about the intersection of nature and culture, takes place at 7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month, October through May, at the Fort George Brewery + Public House in Astoria. Doors open at 6 p.m. to purchase dinner or beverages at the George before the event. The series delves into the many ways that human beings look to the natural world for inspiration, sustenance and survival – the intersection of nature and culture. The collaborative series is hosted by Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Lewis & Clark National Park Association and the North Coast Watershed Association in partnership with the Fort George Brewery + Public House and is free to the public.
