When we were developing the idea for the celebration, we wanted to highlight what is important to the community today, including the diverse cultures and the many nonprofit groups who provide the necessary services that keep the Astoria residents “standing tall”. You can meet over 30 of these community groups at the July 18th Centennial Celebration, including:
💯Clatsop County Historical Society is a 501(C)(3) non-profit educational organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Clatsop County Oregon and the surrounding area. The Society operates the Flavel House Museum, the Heritage Museum, the Oregon Film Museum, and the Uppertown Firefighters Museum.
💯 The Lower Columbia Danish Society is an independent organization whose mission is to promote Danish heritage and culture, participation in the annual Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival, and activities that foster a sense of hygge and community. ❤️
💯 Oregon Black Pioneers is Oregon’s only historical society dedicated to preserving and presenting the experiences of African Americans statewide. For more than 30 years, they've illuminated the seldom-told stories of people of African descent in Oregon through engaging exhibits, public programs, publications, and historical research.
💯 Astoria Productions has realized a dream of staging a world-class film festival on the northern Oregon coast. The Astoria International Film Festival is an event that draws upon the outstanding talents of the northwest and the world, and is becoming a magnet for international filmmakers.
💯 The Wildlife Center of the North Coast provides professional, medical care to sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife and specialize in seabird care. They also provide conservation education programs. 🦅
