Post Pesach challah and a mini popup Rose of Sharon gallery is how we finished Shabbat morning this past week. In the short time of Pesach we went from chilly to summer, with roses already blooming in Astoria.
Tonight we move into Yom HaShoah, ืืื ืืืืืจืื ืืฉืืื ืืืืืืจื. Over the next 25 hours of this day of memory, of learning, reflecting and engaging, look through the art museum at Yad Vashem online. You will find a large collection of art created by Jewish artists murdered in the Shoah.
One example, also shared as the last slide in this post, is a bouquet of flowers. The artist is Alicja Hohermann, who studied art in Warsaw and Paris. She was arrested and deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1943, where she was murdered.
There is also an exhibition of work by Tal Mazliach, an artist and survivor of Kfar Aza on Oct 7. Tal's work there commemorates personal stories from the Holocaust, integrating text from the period.
