What a year!

We started and ended the year with Jewish art! Our goals have always been for students to feel joy and pride in being Jewish, to feel excited to connect to their stories and history, and to be ready to be in the world as Jewish adults.

Yesterday, they explored Jewish stories and interpreted them through art, each making a small fabric square to become part of a new Torah parochet, or cover.

We'll be celebrating another amazing year of MASKIT this Shabbat - join us!

Another flower-filled Shavuot! We made the best of a rainy evening and pretended it was spring (lol) with flowers, cheesecake, and deep learning - full of debates about donkeys.

Thanks for the celebrity-status surprise challah, chock full of Jewish symbolism and hidden Shavuot treats!

Earlier this week, Rabbi Pearl joined Jewish and AAPI leaders from around Queens and beyond for "Sacred Farewells," hosted by , to explore different religious sites and cultural rituals around mourning.

It can be a tricky topic, but for clergy like Rabbi Pearl who are often close to these tough moments in the community lifecycle, it was a meaningful opportunity to share about our own traditions and learn about the meaningful practices of others.

How many Ashreynu peeps (& friends, and babies) can you spot in the crowd? Powering through the 5 Boro Bike Tour (some biked it, others had to navigate around it) and a windy morning and a very long line was all worth it for a free hot dog, some great seltzer, an on-field hora, and a sad loss for this favorite NYC team at Jewish Heritage day with the !

Over the past year, we've participated in the Unity Yizkor part of our Yizkor service, joining Jewish communities across the world in speaking and remembering the names of so many across Israel whose lives have been cut short by violence and hate: Holocaust survivors, refugees and immigrants, the elderly, teenagers, rabbis, babies - everyone has been touched by loss.

This project is an opportunity to reach out to bereaved family, and ensure these names are not forgtten. You can learn more here: https://unity-yizkor.yakir.org.

Post Pesach challah and a mini popup Rose of Sharon gallery is how we finished Shabbat morning this past week. In the short time of Pesach we went from chilly to summer, with roses already blooming in Astoria.

Tonight we move into Yom HaShoah, ื™ื•ื ื”ื–ื™ื›ืจื•ืŸ ืœืฉื•ืื” ื•ืœื’ื‘ื•ืจื”. Over the next 25 hours of this day of memory, of learning, reflecting and engaging, look through the art museum at Yad Vashem online. You will find a large collection of art created by Jewish artists murdered in the Shoah.

One example, also shared as the last slide in this post, is a bouquet of flowers. The artist is Alicja Hohermann, who studied art in Warsaw and Paris. She was arrested and deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1943, where she was murdered.

There is also an exhibition of work by Tal Mazliach, an artist and survivor of Kfar Aza on Oct 7. Tal's work there commemorates personal stories from the Holocaust, integrating text from the period.
