A huge thank you to Kathy Trout for everything she has done as a dedicated Kiwanis member helping children in our community. Your kindness, time, and heart have truly made a difference in so many young lives.

Our Pierson Elementary K-Kids began their new year with Mrs. Sheppard and Mrs. Cosio serving as faculty advisors, while Kathy proudly served as their Kiwanis sponsor. Every other Tuesday after school, Mrs. Sheppard guided the students as they painted rocks to place in their garden between the administration building and cafeteria. The K-Kids also collected canned goods to donate to Pierson’s Head Start program during the holidays. They gathered toys, treats, and handmade cards to fill shoeboxes for families and children in need.

Just before Easter, the members filled hundreds of plastic eggs with small toys and treats for the pre-kindergarten children to enjoy during their egg hunt. After returning from the New Year break, they cleaned and prepared a garden where they planted flower seeds to attract butterflies.

Meanwhile, every other Tuesday, Mrs. Cosio had the K-Kids working one-on-one with kindergarten, first, and second grade students, reading books together. After finishing each book, the children completed reviews and drew pictures of their favorite characters.

At the end of the year, everyone celebrated with a fun ice cream party where the K-Kids thanked their teachers and shared memories of their favorite projects throughout the year.

Thank you again, Kathy, for your love, dedication, and commitment to helping shape these children’s lives and teaching them the importance of kindness, service, and community. ❤️

Our amazing Astor Kiwanis team working together to organize diapers and wipes donated by our wonderful community! These items will help support local families and ease a little of the everyday cost that comes with raising children.

We are so thankful for everyone who donated and helped make this project such a success. It truly takes a community caring for one another to make a difference. 💙

On April 10, the Kiwanis of Astor had the honor of volunteering alongside the FFA students from Taylor Middle-High School at the Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway Fishing Day for Kids event.

The kids had a wonderful hands-on day learning outdoor skills such as how to tie fishing knots, cast a fishing pole, identify different fish found in our area, bait a hook, and maybe even remove a fish from the hook. Best of all, each child was given a fishing pole to take home so they could continue enjoying the fun of fishing and the outdoors.

A very special thank you to Essex Seafood for allowing us to use the pond on their property and for serving everyone lunch after a long morning of fishing. All fish caught during the event were catch and release.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped make this special day possible for the children in our community. 🎣💙

The Kiwanis of Astor would like to send a huge thank you to our amazing community for helping us collect 5,094 diapers and 1,788 diaper wipes to help support families in need.

Your kindness, donations, and support truly make a difference right here in our community. Together, we are helping little ones and their families one diaper at a time.
