Fall is one of the most exciting times for birding in the Roaring Fork Valley! 🍂

As migrating birds pass through and familiar species prepare for the season ahead, every outing offers something new to discover.

Join ACES for a new series of autumn birding classes across local open spaces, preserves, and wildlife habitats. Explore fall migration, practice bird identification, and learn more about bird behavior alongside experienced ACES guides.

Upcoming outings include:
September 15, and 29 at Rock Bottom Ranch
September 8 and 22 at Hallam Lake
September 10 at Difficult Campground
September 24 at Ranch at Roaring Fork

Spend an evening surrounded by Castle Creek Valley’s golden fall foliage while enjoying live music, libations, and a community potluck. Bring a favorite dish to share, or simply come as you are. You are warmly welcome either way!

Registration is now open for ACES’ fall family classes! 🍂

Little explorers and their caregivers are invited to join us for seven weeks of outdoor play, hands-on learning, and seasonal discoveries.

Nature & Me meets Mondays at Hallam Lake, where families will explore fall plants and animals through stories, songs, games, and nature walks.

Little Ranchers meets Wednesdays at Rock Bottom Ranch for garden adventures, egg collecting, apple c***r pressing, and plenty of hands-on ranch fun.

Both classes run from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Space is limited, so visit aspennature.org to register!

Join us and Aspen local Megan DiSabatino September 16th up at Toklat for a restorative sound journey and magical evening forest bathing in nature. ⛰️

Slow down and reconnect as we deeply relax and breathe, bathing in the healing sound frequency of the natural world and singing crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, chimes, gongs and drums, and soak up the beauty and wonder of the meadows and forests around Toklat.

We’ll engage all of our senses as we explore the trees, wildflowers, meadow grasses and icy waters of Devaney Creek.

Join ACES at the Catto Center at Toklat for two powerful opportunities to learn from Indigenous educator Donna Chrisjohn, a citizen of the Sicangu Lakota Nation and descendant of the Diné Nation.

On September 10, Stars as Relatives: Indigenous Knowledge of the Sky invites participants to explore the night sky as a living source of relationship, memory, science, ceremony, navigation, and knowledge carried across generations.

Then, on September 11 or 12, From Erasure to Empowerment: Centering Indigenous Voices offers educators, leaders, and community members practical tools for confronting the erasure of Indigenous peoples and meaningfully centering Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, and communities.

What a summer! From hiking and wildlife discoveries to art projects, farming, fort building, and exploring every corner of Hallam Lake and Rock Bottom Ranch, this camp season was filled with curiosity, creativity, muddy shoes, big laughs, and plenty of outdoor adventures.

Thank you to all of our campers and families for making this summer so special. And a huge thank you to our incredible educators and naturalists who brought the fun, shared their knowledge, encouraged endless questions, and helped every camper build a deeper connection with the natural world.

We loved learning, laughing, exploring, and getting outside with you all summer long. Until next summer!

September at Toklat 🍂

Join us for a month of stories, art, nature walks, crafts, and special programs as fall colors begin to fill Castle Creek Valley. Artist in Residence Elena Gonzalez Ruiz will also be selling her handwoven rugs and offering natural dye demonstrations throughout the month.

Stop by for hot tea, enjoy our craft table with materials for all ages, and spend some time exploring this special place.

Toklat is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Some programs require advance registration, so please visit our website for details and availability.

Thank you for spending such special evenings with us at Rock Bottom Ranch for our Farm to Table Dinners. There was something magical about gathering around the table to share meals grown at the ranch and celebrate the land, the harvest, and our community.

A special thank you to The Farmer & Chef, Causey Wealth, Alfred Eames Cellars, Woody Creek Distillers, The Storm Cellar, and everyone who helped bring these evenings to life.
