We would like to invite and encourage Ohio based inflatable amusement Operators to join IOA in support of fee restructuring. This has passed 87-4 when introduced by the Ohio House and is backed by the Ohio Department of Agriculture Ride safety division. We understand a company may oppose this if faced with fee increases, however all fees were unanimously approved by representatives of the ride safety board when developed including representatives of carnival midway rides. Now several carnival companies oppose them and support GOSA lobby efforts in opposition. Fact: the fee structure is based on actual time and resources used within the process for inspection. Also consider the set up of a bounce house also takes on average 20 minutes, with the only mechanical device a blower for inflation. Events of these type are commonly booked for parties such as birthdays in a backyard or private residence. A traditional mechanical amusement ride is assembled in several hours, propelled by hydraulic, pneumatic, or high voltage. Restraint belts or locking devices typically are part of a mechanical ride around a fixed course. The proposed HB433 accurately creates categories for these amusements and charges based on actual time and complexity of inspection. We ENCOURAGE YOUR SUPPORT of amusement ride fee restructuring and ask you contact the Senate to encourage there support of HB433. They are NOT THE SAME. Read Cleveland article:
