Why are some aspens yellow, some orange-red, and some still green? Aspens propagate primarily by sprouting from an expanding root system, creating groups of trees—clones—that are genetically identical. Some clones turn earlier than others. In some trees, sugar in the leaves reacts to form red pigments—anthocyanins. Enjoy the variety pack!
