I created a program called “I’m an A+” - I”m an African American Plus. Its purpose is to get black youth to think of themselves and define themselves as more than the color of their skin. Too many blacks limit their experiences, their interactions, their adventures and ultimately their happiness. Because of insecurity and lack of confidence, many times they will miss out on opportunities, when they say, “Blacks don’t do that! Blacks don’t swim. Black don’t ski. Blacks don’t play lacrosse. Blacks don’t whatever.” Yes you are the color of your skin, but you are more than that. You are much more than that and you must define yourself in a 1000 different amazing ways, because that’s what makes you YOU! I challenge our youth to define themselves and resist letting others negatively define them.

Meechi and Kyran enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at the Viceroy. They ate oysters for the 1st time and loved it!

I’m so proud of Meechi and Kyran. They’re working on the mountain, having fun and making money. Meechi got her 1st paycheck and she was able to put $183 into her savings towards her $5000 by the end of the season (mid April). Thanks to all that have pledged to match dollar for dollar their savings above $5000.

For those of you that wish to encourage and incentivize Meechi and Kyran to save $5000, you can pledge to match any savings they achieve above $5000. This can be an unlimited pledge or you can limit your pledge to a specific dollar amount.

As a ski instructor. I know how important it is to have the calmness, patiences and the skills to make your client’s adventure a success. Tsuma did just that as our diving instructor. Over the 3 day course to certify us for open water diving, I was impressed with his ability to read the various situations of fear, anxiety and over confidence in our group and professionally deal with them in a calm manner.

Teaching scuba diving Is like teaching skiing. It’s about balance and confidence for skiing; whereas it’s about breathing and confidence for diving. Because of these similarities, I and my foundation, UPportunityGlobal.com, have invited Tsuma to come to Aspen and learn skiing next winter with the boys. Tsuma will learn along side the boys and surprise them at the end with an invitation to go to Africa and learn diving from him.

I’m so excited to be able to make this happen for Tsuma and the boys, because Tsuma informed me that he has never traveled outside of Kenya or Tanzania and has never flown on an airplane.

UPportunity’s 2021 ski adventure is happening! Today was ski day one of three with the Jones-Baldwin family. Keia Jones is a child therapist and her husband, Richardro Baldwin is a policeman. They have four beautiful children of which 3 are adopted. Keia developed a blog on FaceBook (Raising Cultures) and TikTok with a million followers to bring awareness in*******al adoptive families.

UPportunity is proud to announce we are having our 2021 Aspen ski adventure, April 13th to the 17th. Due to Covid, we didn’t want to do our traditional individual youths from various families interacting and rooming together.

But a family would be different and that’s where the Jones-Baldwin family comes in. The family created a media platform called “Raising Cultures” to spread awareness of transracial adoption. UPportunity is more than excited to do our part to advance this awareness. There is only one race and that’s the human race. We may be different variations, but we’re all human.

If you’re considering becoming a foster parent, Keia wants you to know that it’s an emotional roller-coaster.

This is Charles and he has participated in 2 adventures sponsored by UPportunity. Charles lives with his mother in Ft Worth Texas. Their home was without power, heat or water for a few days, forcing them to find warmth and shelter at a local hotel.
