Poage Chapter members, prospectives, and pendings had a fabulous day with TWO big events today!

Ladies hosted a "Sign the Declaration of Independence" event during the City of Ashland's America250 Patriotic Pancakes this morning. We even had a Thomas Jefferson (thank you, Matt Hammond of the Paramount Theater Ashland!) for pictures and to read from the Declaration.

Then, this afternoon, we participated in the City of Ashland 4th of July Parade, carrying the signatures of everyone who signed the Declaration in the morning and passing out candy with the assistance of the Visit Ashland, KY ladies.

We were notified in May that the Highlands Do!seum in conjunction with Poage Chapter were selected to receive the exhibit from September 22nd - 27th! We are so excited that we will be able to share in that exhibit. We will host an opening reception on September 22nd. More details to come!!

Poage Chapter Ladies had a wonderful June meeting today where we heard from Judge Sara Walter Combs of the Kentucky Appellate Court.

Here is the under 100 word write-up that we submitted to the KSDAR State American History Chair to send to NSDAR for inclusion in the national database of Women in American History:

"Sara Walter Combs is a judge of the Kentucky Court of Appeals, representing the 7th Appellate District. She was the first woman to sit on the Kentucky Supreme Court after being appointed by Governor Brereton Jones to fill a vacancy in 1993. She was also the first woman and the first judge from the 7th district to serve as chief judge of the Court of Appeals, holding that position from 2004 to 2010. She is the widow of former Kentucky Governor Bert T. Combs. She was named the Kentucky Bar Association’s Outstanding Judge of the Year for 2010."

We are so grateful to Judge Combs for making the trip to Ashland to visit with us and give a talk about the judicial system in Kentucky! We all learned a lot.
