Passing the torch to the next generation of Eastern Kentucky craftsmen. 🤝⛰️

In Eastern Kentucky, we know that there is simply no substitute for hard-earned experience. At our Training Center, "Life Long Learning" is how we keep our trades—and our communities—strong.

Our apprenticeship program is built on a foundation of two parts:
• The "Why": Mastering essential theory and code in the classroom.
• The "How": Getting out on the jobsite and learning the "tricks of the trade" through real-world mentorship.

By pairing our apprentices with seasoned veteran journeymen, we ensure the high standards of our piping trades are passed down with precision. From installations on new projects and replacements during renovations, to complex repairs in the service industry—our members are trained to do the job right the first time.

Shout out to our Local 248 journeymen who continue to take advantage of up-skilling courses and staying ahead of the curve at the 248 Training Center.

We take pride in our work because this is our home!

We are kicking 2026 off on the right foot! 🛠️

The skilled trades are the best path to success for the next generation of the workforce. With all projections pointing in our favor, now is the time for UA Local 248 to share our 110-year legacy of excellence with new recruits. We offer a "college alternative" where you can earn while you learn and graduate debt-free.

We want to sincerely share our gratitude to Mr. Woolum and Russell Independent Schools for bringing their students by for a tour of our training center today! It was great to see such a hardworking group of students interested in the future of the industry.

We are so proud of 248 Training Coordinator Eric Griffith Jr, he has represented our organization with the class and dignity that our members deserve. His enrollment in the 2025 Bright Leadership program has provided him with access to learn alongside of individuals and groups all across the Eastern Ky region.

Thank you Eric for giving Local 248 the opportunity to showcase who we are and what we do to help build better communities to raise our families!

Kudos to Gavin Tussey, 248 Training Director, and Curtis Branham, 248 MES Training Coordinator, for successfully completing the rigorous 5-year Instructor Training Program at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Eric Griffith Jr, Nathan Moore, and Bobby Holbrook also attended certified instructor training and specialty classes, to bring back the latest innovations to elevate our apprenticeship programs here in Eastern Ky. The UA's annual grant enabled apprentice Ryan Refroe to attend, embodying the union's commitment to empowering the next generation of instructors.

Thank you to the Hazard KCTCS welding program instructors for bringing your students for a field trip to the UA Local 248 Training Center yesterday! The students from your class were very respectful and courteous the entire day. We were impressed with their excitement while learning from our current apprentices and instructors about the United Association.

We hope this experience will lead them to come back and apply to our Apprenticeship Program when they complete your program.
