Fleecers, Swindlers and Con Artists: A History of Fraud Through the Ages with Bob Ainsworth

From ancient Greece to today, from seagoing merchants in the Mediterranean to Charles Ponzi in 1920 to Bernie Madoff in the 1990s to bitcoin on the internet, people have wanted to get rich quick. They wanted easy money. They were no pickpockets looking for a few bucks. They wanted big money. And they didn’t want just any money. No, they wanted your money, your friends’ money, everybody’s money. The money you sweated to make and then had the discipline to save. This presentation is the story of swindlers.

Please join us Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 2pm for this captivating presentation at the Ashland Historical Society, 2 Myrtle St, followed by refreshments and camaraderie.
