🌟 Congratulations to Lilly, our October Student of the Month at Ashland High School! 🌟

Introduced by Dr. Joseph Hattrick at our first meeting of the school year, Lilly is described by her teachers as kind, caring, hardworking, and always ready to help. Mr. Gullo, her Chemistry and AP Environmental Science teacher, praised her integrity and the way she helps create a productive classroom for everyone.

As a captain of the AHS wrestling team, Lilly has helped build the girls' program, and Alec Slinkard-Galpin called her a resilient, empathetic leader who sets the standard by example. She also coaches gymnastics at the YMCA, works at Dutch Bros., and is a talented artist.

Lilly plans to study Kinesiology at Pacific University, pursue a career in physical therapy or athletic training, and wrestle for Pacific's women's team. Congratulations, Lilly! 👏

Garden Update from the Rotary Club of Ashland 🌱. What a crew! Last weekend our garden volunteers harvested 240 pounds of produce on a gorgeous morning.

A few early birds started at 8 a.m. and had the squash and cucumbers picked before the rest of us arrived. Thank you to Greg & Valeri Williams, Julie Newman, and Candace Turtle for setting the pace. 👏

Joining them were Bob Good, Mike Petrovich, Peter Schultz, Keith Whitman, Linda Wilson, Stephanie Roland, Ben Kirpatrick, Coleen Colwell, Susan Hearn, and Cara.

This week's harvest:
🍅 Tomatoes: 70 lbs
🥒 Cucumbers: 57 lbs
🥬 Summer squash: 56 lbs
🍆 Eggplant and peppers: 22 lbs
🍉 Melons: 17 lbs
🫘 Green beans: 13 lbs
🎃 Winter squash (delicata): 3 lbs
🥬 Kale: 2 lbs

Total: 240 lbs!

Even with last week's heat, the garden gave us a solid pick of everything still producing. We also unearthed our first yams (some with very interesting shapes, see the photos 😄) and decided to give the rest a little more time to grow.

Lots of laughs, dirt under our fingernails, and a great morning with great people.

🥒🍅 Garden crew, you did it again! 🍅🥒. This past weekend our amazing volunteers tackled a big list: cleaning up the onion and potato beds, pulling irrigation lines and mats, and mowing to keep the whole garden looking sharp. Cooler weather this past week meant a lighter harvest than usual, but we still brought in a solid haul:

🎃 Winter Squash — 30 lbs
🫘 Green Beans — 5 lbs
🥬 Kale — 3 lbs
🌶️ Peppers (hot & bell) — 3 lbs
🍈 Melon — 17 lbs
🥒 Summer Squash — 17 lbs
🍅 Tomatoes — 20 lbs
🥒 Cucumbers — 51 lbs
🍆 Eggplant — 1 lb

Total: 147 lbs!

With warmer temps rolling back in this week, we're expecting next Saturday's harvest to be a big one — stay tuned! 🌞

Thank you to everyone who showed up, got their hands dirty, and made this huge project feel light and joyful. This is what community looks like. 💙

Grateful for our club, its commitment, and all the kind souls who make this happen.

Next week, we're excited to welcome Maeve Woulfe, community advocate and Executive Director of Rogue Trans located in Ashland, to our Thursday meeting!

Rogue Trans is a Southern Oregon organization supporting transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse individuals through education, peer mentoring, resource connection, and community outreach. Maeve works to build understanding between diverse groups of people and encourages meaningful conversations about inclusion, belonging, and respect across our region.

Come hear her perspective on fostering dialogue, reducing misconceptions, and strengthening connections throughout Southern Oregon. All are welcome!

🎉 What a meeting! 🎉. Yesterday we welcomed Deanna Rivera, who gave us the inside scoop on maximizing our public image — our exchange student from Italy taught a few od our members a new gesture: the classic Italian hand sign for "awesome," "great," or "cool"! 🤌 Naturally, they had to try it out for the cameras.

That's the thing about Rotary — it's not just service, it's community. We learn from each other, laugh together, and find new ways to connect.

And the fun didn't stop there — Amey Broeker and Elva Manquera got everyone talking about making next year's Easter Egg event even more inclusive, so more children in our community can join in.

If you've ever wondered what a Thursday lunch with us actually looks like... this is it. Good food, good people, and a whole lot of genuine connection.

🌧️🌱 Rain or shine, the Rotary Garden crew shows up! Despite a few sprinkles and cooler temps today, our team of 4 harvested a fantastic 125 lbs of fresh produce in under an hour:

🍅 36 lbs tomatoes
🥒 58 lbs squash
🥒 18 lbs cucumbers
🍉 8 lbs watermelon
🌶️ 5 lbs peppers

Things are starting to slow down as the season turns, but every box makes a difference for the Ashland Community Food Bank. Thank you to today's harvest crew for braving the weather! 💛

Today the Rotary Club of Ashland joins the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, who passed away at 80.

Rotary's motto is Service Above Self, and few people ever embodied that quite like Dolly did. Her Imagination Library — mailing free books to children around the world every single month from birth to age five — has been close to our club's heart, and to Rotary clubs everywhere who've partnered to bring that program to their own communities. She believed every child deserves a home filled with books and a shot at a bright future, and she spent decades quietly making that true for millions of kids.

Rest in peace, Dolly. Thank you for a lifetime of generosity, warmth, and love. We will always love you. 💛

Dolly Parton, who rose from a loving if impoverished upbringing in the mountains of East Tennessee to become the “Queen of Country” music, a Hollywood star, and a beloved American icon, has died, her family announced.

Parton was 80.

Her death came after Parton suddenly announced in May 2026 that she was canceling a Las Vegas show and said she'd been undergoing treatment for kidney stones for several years.
