The skills kids need for life aren’t always found in a textbook.

For nearly 20 years, AFF has helped Ashland County students learn how to set goals, communicate clearly, build healthy relationships, manage money, handle bullying, recognize their strengths, and plan for the future.

Thanks to support from the Ashland County Department of Job and Family Services, these classes are offered at no cost to students or local school districts.

Which of these skills do you wish you had learned in school?

It’s bringing back all the back-to-school memories, hopefully we're less awkward than we used to be 😆😁

Kids need places where they don’t have to perform, impress, or compare.

A quiet hike with a trusted mentor gives them space to step away from screens and outside expectations, explore who they are, and discover that who they are is already good enough.

That’s the power of mentorship. 💙

For 20 minutes, he stood in front of the zip line, too afraid to jump.

His mentor didn’t rush him or let him give up.
He stayed beside him, encouraged him, and helped him believe he could do something that felt impossible.

Then this happened.

Help us celebrate this incredible moment in the comments! What would you say to him after watching this leap?

Meet Letty, our new Office Administrator! 💙

A former Parent Support Team Lead, Letty is returning to AFF to help our staff stay organized and support the families we serve.

She’s bilingual, a proud first-generation college graduate, and a wife and mom of three. One more thing to know: she may be 4'11", but she loves driving her family’s big trucks!

Help us welcome Letty back to AFF! 👋

🎓 Our Life Skills Program had a fantastic opportunity to tour North Central State College!

Participants explored the campus, learned about college life, and discovered the many educational and career opportunities available after high school. Experiences like this encourage independence, self-confidence, and future planning while helping participants envision what's possible for their next chapter.

Thank you to North Central State College for welcoming our group and sharing information about the exciting opportunities available to students. 📚

🔨Creativity, teamwork, and hands-on learning were on full display during our Life Skills woodworking class!

Participants worked hard to build their own birdhouses while developing valuable skills such as following directions, measuring, using tools safely, problem-solving, and working together. Every birdhouse reflects the time, effort, and pride our participants put into their work.

Experiences like these help build confidence, independence, and practical skills that can be used every day. We are so proud of everyone's craftsmanship and dedication!

Great job to all of our talented builders! 👏🪺
