As an evangelist, I’m disturbed by professing Christians who deny the reality of the eternal torment awaiting those who reject the Savior. If hell didn’t exist, why bother telling sinners about Jesus? The gospel is not God hatefully saying: “Turn to Me or I’ll send you to hell.” The gospel is God’s mercy and grace saying: “You're already on your way to hell. Turn to Me, and I’ll save you.” Some argue that hell is not mentioned in the Old Testament. Daniel 12:2 says, “And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt.” Ezekiel 3:18 warns, “When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.”

A complaint that sometimes comes up from brethren when I’m sharing the gospel is not talking enough about repentance. The late Stephen Hill (who preached very confrontational sermons) got born again and delivered from drug addiction after a Lutheran vicar had him say the name of Jesus over and over. Steve pointed out he didn’t go through the Four Spiritual Laws or some other popular evangelism method. Romans 10:13 says, “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Today is the tenth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando, Florida. 49 people were murdered plus many others wounded. At least one of the latter gave his life to Christ afterward. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

THROWBACK THURSDAY - In 2010, I went evangelizing in Springfield, Illinois. In a coffee shop, I witnessed to a man pretending to be Abraham Lincoln. Assuming “Honest Abe” was telling the truth, he already knew the Lord and asked if I vote Republican.

This Friday, Steven Spielberg is releasing a new film about aliens called “Disclosure Day.” The director reportedly claims it will cause people to question their religious beliefs. I’ve known Jesus Christ for 35 years and seen many miraculous things. Nothing produced out of Hollywood will cause me to question my faith. I will rebuke any extraterrestrial being who would try to draw me away from Him. They are demonic entities. Through Christ, I have authority over them. James 4:7 says, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

A topic that often stirs up doctrinal debates is when the rapture of the church will occur. If you want to fight for your right to tribulate, that’s your choice. I won’t let rapture bashers rob me of the crown available for those who long for His appearing (2 Timothy 4:8). I like how Tiff Shuttlesworth summarizes it: “The rapture is Christ coming for the church, the Second Coming is Christ coming with the church!”
