It’s been an interesting year for the Ashland Area Recreation Association. Even with the pandemic we were able to complete the biggest project to date. With a very generous donation from the family of Katherine Wells Macmillan, we were able to replace the aging playground at the Booster Club/Ballfield.

This year we are in desperate need of Board members. What it requires is a good attitude and attend a monthly meeting (less than one hour) to discuss and vote on agenda items. Be a positive force in the community and join our Board. Without a five member board, we will be forced to shut down. Please, please please consider volunteering just a little of your time and help us do good for our community.

Please reach out to us via FB messenger or text Mark at 603 seven zero seven - seven nine two five. (Please share this post)

We did it! The new Katherine MacMillan Playground is officially open. The AARA wants foremost thank the family and friends of Katherine MacMillan for their very generous donation which made this playground possible. We also want to recognize and thank Degrace Concrete and Randall Surveying for their donation. Also, Ashland Park & Rec Director, Ann Barney, and Ashland Public Works Director, Craig Moore, went above and beyond to make this come together. They answered texts and phone calls at all hours and did whatever was needed to get the job done. We would also like to thank the numerous other donors who donated money, time and materials. This was truly a team effort. Please go check out our new playground, and if you see anyone listed above, tell them “Thank you!”.

Do you ever have ideas of how to improve our town? Would you like to help the children of our town have more recreational opportunities? Please consider joining the Ashland Area Recreation Association! We recently lost one member after her courageous battle with cancer and have other board members that would like to retire. What you need to know:

- Meetings are once a month for less than an hour (sometimes meet every other month)
- We award scholarships to local children for after school programs and summer camps
- We are currently working with the Town to replace the Baseball Field Playground and almost no cost to the town thanks to a very generous donor.
- You do not have to work at AARA sponsored events. Help on our Board is enough!
- It is only a one year term!

Please consider helping us by joining the AARA as we are required to have 5 non related board members to stay active. Feel free to contact us via PM or Mark at six 0 three 707 seven nine two five. Thanks!

WANTED!
Extension Cords

Keep your eyes open around town this week as you may catch an AARA Board Member or AARA volunteer putting up those Christmas lights for all to enjoy! However, we are in search of additional extension cords to keep up with our increase in lighting displays as well as needing to replace old ones.

If you would consider donating a 50-100 foot extension cord, new or used, please send us a private message. Thank you for your support!

Wow! It was a full day of hard work at the Ashland Ballfield. Thanks to Brett Melanson, Bruce Ballou and Buzzy Sharrow with their years of experience and hard work that made this happen in one day. Also helping was Craig Moore, Sam Liebert and Hunter Melanson.

The project started with laying out and painting lines of what to remove, then the sod cutting followed by the removal of the sod and old base line material that was very abrasive. The next step was the grading of the baselines and homeplate area. Finally the new material was spread, graded packed and finish raked.

The last project was to build a proper pitching mound that will help our pitchers deliver that fast ball!

Thanks also to Jeremy Hiltz for trucking the material and Tree Solutions for the equipment used. Keep an eye out for the next phase and let us know if you would like to help.
