The Ashland 4th of July Committee is saddened to hear of the passing of Charlie St. Clair, who recently passed away from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

For many years, Charlie was the person behind the incredible fireworks displays that lit up the sky over Ashland during our Independence Day celebrations. While thousands of people gathered each year to watch and enjoy the show, Charlie was behind the scenes helping create a tradition and memories that so many of us looked forward to year after year.

We are grateful for the many years Charlie shared his time and talent with our community and for the part he played in making Ashland’s 4th of July celebrations so special.

Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with Charlie’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him during this incredibly difficult time.

As part of Ashland's first-ever Fourth of July celebration honoring the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the committee revived a favorite tradition from many years ago by bringing back the popular "Race What You Brung" homemade boat race. The event was designed to be a fun-filled activity for participants and spectators of all ages. Contestants arrived with a variety of creative and unique homemade boats, each reflecting the imagination and enthusiasm of its builders. The friendly competition was filled with laughter, excitement, and plenty of memorable moments. Most importantly, everyone joined in the spirit of the celebration, and it was clear that all who participated—and those who came to watch—had a wonderful time.
