Shoeing a horse. I'm sooo glad to have a picture of this. I think this was in Lineville. The sign says, "Simmons." Hope someone will know. It was in my grandmother, Effie Smith Ramsey's, pictures. She lived in Lineville. Still, this could be somewhere else in Clay County.

Here are some articles about Millerville's basketball team, another of CC's great teams of the past. We can't forget how much talent came through Clay County in different ways. Sports were always something we excelled at. So glad William Pace found these. I do want to mention the fantastic pictures of the teams that we have been posting. They make me go back and see the game.

This is the beginning of dial phones in Lineville. Love this picture. Hope someone will find the year! I'm so glad that someone in the Historical Society saved these pictures with write-ups. Though they are online now, we wouldn't know to look for them.

I'm posting Willis Sutton's picture in a comment below.

These articles were in the 1930 newspaper. The first article lists the names of children who attended school in Clay County. Do note the word "regularly". Ha! Also, note the top article about Willis A Sutton. He had been in Clay County for several years much earlier. While here, he served as minister and got the First Methodist Church in Ashland built; he was the first Principal at Clay County High School; and he started the Ashland Progress. All that in 5 years. He went from here to Atlanta to head up the schools there and made it to the top of the country by 1930. He was interviewed by phone by CCHS School students many years later and said that he had never worked any harder in any job than he did in Clay County. He also said that he had never loved any people, any where, or any more than here.

Shortly after World War II, Gen. Douglas MacArthur selected thirty educators from across the country to go to Japan to revamp their education system so that it would be based on Democratic principals. One of those he selected was Willis A Sutton. Dr. Sutton went responded to that enormous challenge at 80 years of age.

Back in the mid-to-late 80’s, there was a local band named Larry Jordan and the Bama Bash Band. Thanks to Daphne Jo Jordan for sharing this. Name 'em!

This was a great basketball team back in the day at CCHS. I'm guessing the year was around 1970 or 71.

Love this picture of Tim Runyan at the organ at Ashland First United Methodist Church. Tim was a gorgeous organist and singer. This organ has an interesting history that I need to get for the museum. We miss you, Tim!
