It is almost time for our next meeting! We will have our Aug meeting this coming Tues (Aug 18th) at 6:30 PM EDT at the Freer Home located at 1260 Center Street in Ashland, Ohio. This will be a hybrid meeting (both in person & virtual) via Zoom so if you can make it in person you can still join us. Non-members are welcome (and encouraged) to join us. Chapter President Char Elson will be sending the Zoom link & handouts out via email sometime this weekend, if you are not a member & would like the link please email her no later than Tues the 18th at noon at [email protected].

Our speaker this month is Eric E. Johnson presenting "Ohio and World War I: Reconstructing Your Ancestor’s Military Service Records"

Eric Johnson is a Fellow of the Ohio Genealogical Society and a Registrar-General Emeritus for the General Society of the War of 1812. He is currently the District Deputy President General for the Great Lakes Region for the General Society of the War of 1812.
Johnson is also a member of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution. He is a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force, and the author of thirty-four books on the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, the Civil War, and the Old Northwest Territory.

Don't forget our next chapter meeting on Tues July 21st ! This is our annual picnic which will be held at the Freer Field Community Room located at 1301 Park Street Ashland, Ohio 44805. Please note this meeting begins one hour earlier than normal at 5:30.

Bring your favorite dish to share, a beverage, and your table setting, maybe even a friend or two...oh and your appetite!

Char Elson, Chapter President has a few activities planned as well. We also have a goodie basket from Ancestry.com as a door prize, all you have to do is show up! There is no program planned just time to visit and enjoy each others company.

Don't forget our next meeting is our annual potluck dinner/picnic. It will be held Tues July 21st at 5:30 PM at the Freer Community Center. Please note the time and location change from our regular meetings! You do not need to be a member to join us!

Tuesday, next week the 16th of June is the one and only Mr. Craig Wiley and many will remember him from Mapleton School he will be our speaker at our Ashland County Genealogy Meeting (Family Search) at Freer field at 6:30 PM. This will be a hybrid meeting with the Zoom link going out to all members. Our chapter webmaster Ishu received a certificate and many thanks tonight from our chapter president Char. She took on the job as a sophomore and will continue volunteering in that capacity for us as she moves to the University of Texas to continue her studies in computer science.

This coming Tues (May 19th) at 6:30 PM eastern time at the Freer Home in Ashland will be our next chapter meeting. If you can not make it in person don't worry Chapter President Char Elson will be sending the virtual link out in the very near future.

Our speaker this month will be Peggy Clemens Lauritzen (or Miss Peggy as most of us know her by) and she will be presenting "Research Trip Around Ohio”.

Speaker Bio: AG, AGL, FOGS, is a favored speaker at conferences. She is a Family History Director, and was named Fellow in the Ohio Genealogical Society, and received the Laura G. Prescott Award for Exemplary Service in Genealogy. A lifelong Ohioan, her ancestry is mostly south of the Ohio River.

Program Description: Ohio genealogists are often asked about the best facilities for researching when descendants return home to trace their ancestry. This presentation will highlight some of the most productive facilities when you only have so much time to spend.
