Introducing...
The Gardens, at Autumn Sun Community.
Ash has been steadily working with all types of plants for many moons now. For myself, it has been an interesting shift over the past year. We are both budding herbalists, very interested in deepening our knowledge of plants, both for eating and medicine.
Working together, we have created various grand garden beds, both big and small. From vegetables and fruits, edible herbs and flowers, to toxic and poisonous plants, we have been steadily working for months now.
We are managing dozens of different plants, learning about them as we grow together. Some, we grew ourselves, from the tiniest of seeds. Others, sprang up by themselves, either from last year's efforts, or seemingly randomly.
These pictures below, barely do our work justice. It is hard to take it all in, from one post, or one picture, or even one day of working on the farm. There is so much growth and potential out there, just waiting to be worked with, and eventually harvested.
We have already been blessed with cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, peas, berries, wildflowers and more. We have been managing parts of the property which were being taken over by very poisonous plants, such as datura and castor. Not only are we steadily making this place more safe and landscaped, but we are also learning a great deal about the cycle of life.
Gardening and farming are great ways to ground daily, and there is not much more satisfying than growing your own food. We are blessed for this opportunity to learn and grow.
We have also experienced our fair share of issues and setbacks. From the wildlife and bugs, to the lack of rain, and the extreme heat over this summer, we have not had the best of luck with all plants. While some flourish, others do not always. Admittedly, we are still learning.
Another wonderful aspect of gardening, is the ability to share with others. Where as we did not begin this growing season with the mindset of growing enough to also sell, it is looking that way. From the dozens of yellow cherry tomato plants that came out of nowhere, or the mini pumpkin patch we created, we are finding ourselves with more than we know what to do with.
A farm stand has been created up at the highway, in order to share our harvest with others. Our inventory is literally growing by the day.
All items vegetables and herbs are by donation, as available. We use no pesticides, herbicides, or any other harmful chemicals or practices. We tend the earth in the most gentle and conscious ways we are able.
