Today we celebrate Indigenous peoples, especially those who are of our Dover Baptist Association member churches. We acknowledge the value of your heritage and culture, and honor the fact that indigenous people have contributed immensely to the world and the body of Christ despite historical mistreatment and prejudice. We are THANKFUL and PROUD to call you brothers and sisters in Christ and to work alongside you for Christ's kingdom!

Another “Historic” Dover Baptist Association church celebration as Antioch Baptist Church, Sandston, Va. celebrated her 250th anniversary. Several Baptist church, association, and Virginia Baptist Historical Society leaders were invited to present and be part of the occasion. Pastor Greg shared the importance of reflecting on the church’s legacy of perseverance and faith while moving forward to share the love of Christ in word and deed. Dover and Virginia Association leader, Chief Stephen Adkins, (Chickahominy Indian Tribe & Samaria Baptist Church), shared Antioch’s unprecedented role of providing a space for worship for Indian people, and emphasized the importance of preserving the Baptist denomination’s name and positive historic contribution.

Despite the rain, it was a beautiful day as Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church celebrated their 250th Anniversary. Pastor Earl reflected on the spiritual application of Field of Dreams, “If you build, it ‘He’ will come.” Members shared. Children, young and senior adults made a joyful noise to the Lord, and everyone joined hands to “Blest Be the Tie that Binds.”

Congratulations to Taylorsville Baptist Church on her 185th Anniversary! Pastor Kyle reflected on “If these could talk.” Members shared, sang, fellowshipped, and honored past leadership and historic milestones.

Our Dover Baptist Association is saddened to hear about the passing of Jim Ukrop. Mr. Ukrop was an incredible Christian servant leader, and the Ukrop’s family have been part of the fabric of Dover for almost a century. They helped start Poplar Springs Baptist Church, supported and served new Dover churches and hosted Dover church leaders and families on their farm. Worship was held at the Ukrop Farm before there was a formal church structure. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and many friends of Mr. Ukrop.

He was a "lifelong innovator" with a strong passion for his community and Richmond's growth.

“In 2015, Andrew became the lead pastor of his parents’ church, and I quickly found ways to fill my new role as lead pastor’s wife,” wrote Kayla Stoecklein in 2020. “I served on the women’s ministry team, set up for the MOPS group on Wednesdays, and arrived on time for the very first service every single Sunday.

Ministry was everything. Our entire world revolved around the local church and the calling God had placed on Andrew’s life. His calling became my calling; his passion, my passion; his purpose, my purpose.

Then on August 25, 2018, after battling through a season of burnout, depression, and anxiety, my beloved husband Andrew tragically died by su***de.

Life as I knew it changed forever and I was handed a brand-new life as a widow and single mom to our three young boys.

The truth I’ve found through my former role as a pastor’s wife is that pastors are people too. They aren’t superhuman; they are human. They aren’t invincible; they are just broken vessels giving it their best shot to be a bright light in a really dark and desperate world. But to keep shining bright and leading from a place of strength, pastors must be deliberate about how they care for themselves too.

Pastors need community, they need to share the heavy weight of the mantle, and they need to give themselves permission and margin to heal and rest.”
