Just a reminder the Ashland Water Department will begin hydrant flushing April 6th.

Key reasons for flushing hydrants:
·Improves Water Quality: Removes iron, manganese, and other mineral deposits that cause discolored,
rusty, or smelly water, leading to clearer, better-tasting water.
·Maintains Firefighting Capacity: Tests hydrants and valves to ensure they are operational and can deliver
the necessary water flow and pressure for firefighting.
·Clears Sediments & Biofilms: Scours inside water mains to dislodge built-up sediment and biofilms,
preventing bacterial growth and restoring chlorine levels.
·System Integrity: Identifies malfunctioning valves or weak points in the water system, allowing for
proactive repairs.
·Emergency Preparedness: Ensures the system can rapidly flush out contaminants in case of a nonroutine
contamination event.
What to expect during flushing:
·Temporary Discoloration: Water may appear brown or reddish due to harmless silt and minerals being
stirred up.
·Water is Safe: The water is generally safe to drink, but it's best to let the tap run until it runs clear if you
notice discoloration.

On Sunday, March 1, 2026, I had the distinct honor of serving as a judge for the 2026 Department of Missouri American Legion Oratorical Contest.
It was a privilege to witness the outstanding talent and dedication of these young leaders. Congratulations to Tess Lehman, the 2026 Department of Missouri American Legion Oratorical Contest winner, for an exceptional performance!

TRASH UPDATE:

Due to inclement weather conditions, routes will not be running today. Republic Services asks that all commercial customers keep their container and approach free and clear of snow and all residents to leave their carts at the road on their regularly scheduled service day and they will resume services as soon as it is safe to do so.

What an outstanding resource for Boone County law enforcement. This initiative represents a strong step forward, and we are grateful for the leadership and commitment of Sheriff Dewayne Carey, Cpt. Brian Leer, and Boone County Commissioner Kip Kendrick. This partnership will greatly enhance our ability to support and collaborate with the Ashland Police Department, strengthening public safety for our entire community.
