Ashland Pride was founded in 2019 to accomplish 2 goals: 1) to create a safe and welcoming place for all of the members of the q***r community and 2) to try to get Ashland city commissioners to pass a fairness ordinance in Ashland to give people in the q***r community protections in our town.
Over the past few years we have spent a lot of time working on the social aspect of this organization to grow our community but the thing that got lost in the shuffle was advocacy and activism work.
We need to change that.
This year at our AKP board meeting, we all decided that it was time to put down our clacking fans and pick up a protest sign, ink pen, or a microphone.
We want to spend time making resource guides, helping our neighbors, and genuinely being a pillar of hope for everyone in the q***r community in our neck of the woods.
There is a time and a place for everything and with the current political climate it is time to band together for the good of our community.
There will still be events, we will still have our yearly picnic and other smaller gatherings throughout the year but we really want to focus on taking the time to make real change in Ashland and across Kentucky.
If this sounds like something that you can get behind, our next meeting will be Sunday, August 2nd from 1:30-3:30 at the Boyd County Library on Central Ave.
