🚨 UPDATE: TVA Drops Lockertsville Road Site, But the Fight for Cheatham Isn't Over 🚨
We’re encouraged by TVA’s announcement that it is no longer pursuing Lockertsville Road for its proposed methane gas plant. That’s thanks to the thousands of people who stood up to defend our farms, forests, and rural quality of life.
We remain firmly opposed to a methane gas plant anywhere in our county. TVA has yet to justify it with credible data, especially when cleaner, cheaper alternatives exist. Relocating the project doesn’t fix the problem, it just moves the harm.
While we understand people’s frustration with TVA, TVA doesn’t need to be busted up, it needs to be held accountable. The public power model, when it works, has kept our rates more stable than most other parts of the country. Selling TVA off to the highest bidder means higher rates, less transparency, and losing what we've already paid for. We should fix TVA, not destroy it.
TVA was built to serve the public - not AI data centers, not Wall Street, and definitely not political donors. Right now, TVA’s Board lacks a quorum, and we are calling on Congress to ensure nominees are qualified and restore meaningful oversight.
We need local control restored. We are blessed to have a high profile country music star elevate our fight, but the next community may not be so fortunate. No utility or pipeline company should be able to sidestep local zoning and force massive infrastructure projects on unwilling communities. Not here. Not anywhere.
We’re continuing to fight - in court, in the community, and across the region, to make sure our voices are heard and rural communities have a seat at the table. To all who have donated, spoken out, written letters, knocked on doors, or just kept showing up: thank you.
We’re not done yet. Landowners are still being sued. TVA still owns the land. We will continue our work to preserve Cheatham County and protect our way of life. We are stronger than ever. 💪
