These past few months have kept our forestry team busy!

In March, college students joined us for their Alternative Spring Break service trips, we held the first tree distribution of the spring season, and hosted an open house at our native tree nursery and fruit orchard to celebrate NC Arbor Day.

April and May brought more tree distributions, another open house on Earth Day, and four tree planting events in Buncombe and Madison counties.

We crunched the numbers, and here is everything we accomplished this spring:

🪴Potted 4,000+ bare root trees
🌱Distributed 3,000+ free trees
🌳Planted 80 large mature trees

A huge thank you goes out to our team of TreeKeepers, volunteers, community partners, funders, and free tree recipients! By working together, our impact grows stronger, and our canopy grows greener. 💚

We want the happy, sunny vibes, not the soggy struggle!

To keep our amazing volunteers safe and ensure we have the best possible day on the river, we are postponing our 50th Annual Clean Streams Day. With heavy rain, wind, and cool temperatures in the forecast for this weekend, we’ve decided to wait for bluer skies.

🗓️ NEW DATE: June 13th
🕙 TIME: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Important Note: Your original registration will not automatically transfer. If you can still join us for the new date, please take a quick second to re-register here: https://dash.pointapp.org/events/683340

This just gives us more time to recruit friends and neighbors to help us protect our waterways. See you on the river in June! 🛶

Saturday May 16th was the official first Hendersonville Spring Sweep. Thanks to our partner City of Hendersonville Stormwater for helping us put this great project at the almost completed Grove Street Nature Park. This gem of a property is JUST outside of Downtown and will be acres of walking/biking trails with multiple habitat zones, two creeks and loads of beautiful native plantings. Volunteers came from Buncombe and Henderson Counties to cleanup an old dump site and some Helene debris. 1,240lbs in just plastic trash, 9 tires a huge pile of rusty metal was recovered. Outstanding! Thank you to our StreamKeeper volunteers Kristin, Phillip and Melissa for helping to guide this project. More cleanups in Henderson County are on the WAY! Check out https://pointapp.org/orgs/8301 to register to stay up to date on our outings.
