Asheville GreenWorks is embarking on a two year pilot program to research sustainable methods of harvesting, propagating and installing native River cane (arundinaria gigantea). River cane once covered the majority of the floodplains in our region and due to overdevelopment and agricultural practices, river cane populations are down to 2% of pre European settlement. We established a new nursery dedicated to researching commercially viable growing methods for river cane. Please join us on our regular Friday workdays as we explore this amazing plant together. Register below to help us support this on-going program. https://dash.pointapp.org/events/834825

We’re excited to be part of a special gathering in Asheville on October 24, celebrating the resilience and community of Western North Carolina.

The evening will bring together local voices for a conversation about Hurricane Helene — what it revealed, what changed, and what other communities can learn — followed by food, drinks, fire, conversation, and live old-time music in the meadow.

We hope you’ll join us and cheer on our very own Carrie Harmon, the "one who sends the emails."

For over a decade, our Native Tree Nursery at Buncombe County Sports Park has been where community healing begins. From providing free trees to neighbors to driving our massive post-Helene restoration response, this land has given us so much.

Now, as Buncombe County develops a new multi-use facility, our lease ends in 2028 and our nursery needs a new home.

Our post-Helene planting efforts have grown tenfold, and to keep up with the demand to restore WNC’s urban forest, we need a permanent space of our own.

We’re looking for:
🌱 2–5 flat, accessible acres in the Asheville area (gift or long-term lease).

Know a landowner or want to partner with us? Contact us today at the link in our bio and help us root the next generation of trees in Asheville!
